3wyl In reply to Tuntalm [2016-07-02 16:13:22 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

The effects are in-built into the lens. Depending on the lighting, the angle, the focal point, etc. different effects can be created. These were all taken with the same lens/lensbaby:

No prob !

I like the last one ! It looks like a psychedelic dream or something. But the technique by itself is quite interesting : as if everything was fading away in weird shapes. It could represent memory, in a way. With time, everything fades away.
I didn't know we could do that with a camera. That's very impressive !

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Tuntalm [2016-07-07 22:49:51 +0000 UTC]

I agree that the technique by itself is interesting. If one shoots with a normal camera (not infrared), then it's pretty cool what one can do. The infrared dimension adds another layer to it, is all.

It would be interesting to have a memory that doesn't fade with time. What would it be like to still remember everything from when we were five years old? We would probably be quite crazy.

It's more the lens, regarding the cool effects. The lens offers more flexibility. Regarding a camera, it's more set in terms of what you want to do. For example, infrared conversion is set for life. One can't go back and forth between normal and infrared (that is, unless your camera is converted a certain way), but one can go back and forth with the lensbaby because you can twist it in and out of focus. The lensbaby is a manual lens as well, so...yeah.

Yep ! I guess there are many ways to get a cool shot of something, and it all depends on what you want to do !

Mmmh... I think people with photographic memory are quite close to 'recalling everything'. Maybe they are crazy, or just have a different vision of life. I remember an episode of House MD when a patient was a girl with this kind of ability. She used it to see the balance between the good and the bad things another person did to her in order to see the 'rate of good' of the person and judge if she could forgive the person or not. If that makes any sense. We can thus imagine people recalling everything have some trouble seeing people the way one 'usually does' because of this and end up being very judgmental and critical over others. Do you think it is a 'bad thing', necessary ?

Oooh, I see ! And which one do you prefer using ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Tuntalm [2016-07-11 23:44:59 +0000 UTC]

The possibilities of photography are quite endless in that regard. There are many different variables involved that could change a piece completely. That's one reason why photography is pretty amazing.

If one could recall mostly everything, one would have more resources to review things and reflect on things as well. At the same time, it could be that they are more judgmental and critical over others, sort of like holding a grudge kind of thing, right? Because they can remember a lot and all.

I like using the lensbaby and infrared camera together. Both the lensbaby and infared camera present different effects. I'm not sure there is one that I prefer using.

Yep, for sure ! I like the way you can show the sheer reality of things or just totally alter the world to create dreamy or mysterious atmospheres. That's quite interesting !

I don't know. It looks a bit more realistic, since you can also say the judged person achieved more "good" things than "bad" ones and thus become a good person in your heart. But I don't know if recalling everything necessarily leads to objectivity. So, maybe I am wrong.

You're a photography fanatic, haha ! You love everything, and I find it great ! This way, you can experiment and try out new combinations and new things, and don't stick with one and only thing.

3wyl In reply to Tuntalm [2016-07-15 00:01:00 +0000 UTC]

It is the beauty of art in general...how we represent what we see, or don't see. Maybe it's from imagination, or maybe it's from reality. Either way, there are many beautiful and mysterious aspects about art.

With photography in particular, it's more interesting because you're taking a shot of the real world, in an accurate way, but then you may be able to distort things, alter the world, or do any number of different things to enhance the atmosphere, to make the atmosphere more dreamy, mysterious, dangerous, scary, etc. We have an impact on the depiction of the world, and that can impact others.

For me, objectivity is about how you phrase things, and how you approach it. I don't think any of us can be totally objective, because we would have to distance ourselves away from ourselves, which isn't possible.

I have done my fair share of experimentation, that is true. I do love to experiment where photography is concerned, and I think artists should experiment in general. One doesn't know what the results will be like until one gives it a go - whether it's an accident or not.

Tuntalm In reply to 3wyl [2016-07-16 12:46:32 +0000 UTC]

Yes, indeed. Art is a way to show another perspective of the world.

That's quite spectacular to start with the exact representation of the world, and end up creating something totally different, almost based on the artist's introspection and thus different from the outside world. We create a path to the inside with something from the outside. That's quite surprising.

Yes. When you look at it, we are always influenced by something, our era, our environment, etc. So we are definitely trapped in something.Β

Hahaha, absolutely ! And going out of one's confort zone is the key here. Even if a lot of artists down here are afraid to give it a go for some reason.

3wyl In reply to Tuntalm [2016-07-21 00:03:12 +0000 UTC]

It's quite an interesting way to look at things, and an interesting approach, going to the inside from the outside - sort of like tunneling into some kind of different truth.

Going out of one's comfort zone is definitely key in many things! Whether it's society, art, etc. Of course, some zones are easier to handle than others.

Tuntalm In reply to 3wyl [2016-07-21 10:24:37 +0000 UTC]

Some kind of different truth ? Do you mean changing the truth or accessing another part of the truth ?

That's very true ! But people are quite afraid of that. I am as well, when it comes to certain things. But what we should think is that you can't know what will happen if you don't try. Or at least, this is what I repeat myself. ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Tuntalm [2016-07-22 00:36:50 +0000 UTC]

Accessing another part, in a way. Not really changing the truth, but accessing another part.

I think a lot of people would agree that that is what they say to themselves. I know it's something I've come across myself, that I won't know what it's really like without trying it first, which is why I usually try something once.

Tuntalm In reply to 3wyl [2016-07-23 11:58:28 +0000 UTC]

This is what I thought, but I wasn't sure.

I guess it is the best option (unless you are trying to see if you can eat that one mushroom which seems pretty much toxic. In this case, this is NOT a good option.). Theory can be sometimes far from reality, so trying things out is the only way to really know.Β

3wyl In reply to Tuntalm [2016-07-24 16:54:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes, indeed!

That's something that is good about empirical things, being able to use our senses to 'prove' things, but it is also flawed in some ways as well, just because we are flawed.

Tuntalm In reply to 3wyl [2016-07-30 16:07:14 +0000 UTC]

A lot of things are traps for us, indeed... I guess we are very very very far from what life is really like, and we can only try to figure out a little at the time through "imperfect" windows.
