Another Bic pen picture. I only used red and black this time. The picture is about A4 size on Extra Smooth Bristol Board paper.My other Bic pens pics:

(I got here from browsing the Traditional-Realism group gallery ... I had just applied to join that group, and I always look at the galleries of groups I want to join to see what, if any, of my works will fit in there! This drawing stood out, so I decided to look at it full-size.)

No I kept it pure and just used red and black Bics. Under close up you can still see some cross hashing.

Unfortunately, much of my work is stop and start and I add to the picture over several weeks. I have some WIPs of this and others that I might post if people are interested.

Detail on the lips is incredible. Don't want to put you down, but the teeth do let this piece down a bit though.

Honestly, it's hard to place. They don't seem to have the level of detail that the lips do, though naturally being a fairly monotone surface doesn't help. If you look though, in the original photo they have a pinkish tinge from the lips, but obviously using bics you've had to shade it with a plain black pen, which makes them contrast oddly. Not really something you could help I guess, so not really a fault. Also to me, they look a little over sized, square and crooked compared to the original photo. Again if you look, the ridges in the teeth angle slightly inward slightly more, and the teeth have a slightly more rounded appearance due to natural wear. I hope that was helpful, this is still incredible work and an absolute favorite of mine.

I suppose putting the original photo next to the drawing is always asking for direct comparison. I tried a hint of red reflection on the teeth and maybe I could shade the teeth a tone darker, but I was concerned with overworking it and potentially ruining it. I may try out another pair of lips and take on board your comments in the future. Thanks for the lengthy reply and constructive criticism.

No problem, like I said, I guess there's not much you can do about the tone considering the medium you're using, so it's a tad unfair to pick on that. And yeah, I totally understand you not wanting to overwork something. I'm no where near as skilled an artist, but I know the feel of ruining a piece you're really happy with by botching an attempt at fixing a minor flaw. Thanks for being such a good sport and being so positive about criticism
