Description Here we have an updated Jamal al-Rashid, the Arabian Warrior, Imam and Dad/Mentor of Jyukenshi.

Since Jamal is an important side character I figure I ought to give him a proper redesign. I aged him up with a gray beard and, since he's ex-military--Royal Saudi Air Force to be exact--I added some military elements to his Arab design with a little fantasy mixed in. Fun fact: the Feathered cloak and eagle-head shoulder are references to his Seijyu, the Roc, which represents the Constellation Aquila.

I also retconned his Chōjin power from Sand Manipulation, which, admittedly, is a little obvious for an Arab, to Smoke Manipulation or Typhokinesis. This retcon was actually in Jyukenshi for a while now. In addition to Smoke, Jamal can also fling razor-sharp vacuums of Air from his hands similar to the Heiderns from KoF and is Aerokinetic. Like in Naruto the best Chōjin have more than just one ability.

And no, he's not a bad guy or some extremist. He is a true Muslim and gentleman warrior.

I hope you enjoy!

Short Bio: Jamal al-Rashid is well-known and respected as the Commander and co-founder of the esteemed Celestia Foundation. He oversees the younger members and sends them out on missions, often with a little fatherly advice beforehand. Part of his effectiveness as Commander is due to the fact that Jamal is no stranger to combat, having served in the Royal Saudi Air Force and saw combat in the First Gulf War.

But Jamal is more than combat. He's a devout Muslim and an Imam at the Al-Azad Mosque in Durham, North Carolina. As in the Celestia Foundation, Jamal is deeply respected in the Muslim Community. Of course, Jamal's favorite people are his family: wife of 30 years, Fatima, and thier children, firstborn Jasmine and baby son, Salim. Both of whom are now grown and on thier own.

This wonderful life didn't come easy for Jamal, however. The years following the First Gulf War saw increased tension in the Middle East that forced Jamal to make the difficult decision of leaving his ancestral home of Medina. He and his family would move to the peaceful southern city of Chapel Hill, North Carolina where they have lived since. By far, the greatest challenges for Jamal and his family in the U.S. came from the Post 9/11 years. But Jamal wouldn’t let his family absorb and reciprocate the paranoia and racism that was thrust upon them. Like a good father he urged them to stay strong and it seems to have worked--as far as Jamal knows, that is.

Unbeknownst to him, daughter Jasmine, fed up with the unrest in the Middle East bought on by extremism, walks down a dark path--a path that will force father and daughter into conflict.

As a man, Jamal is calm, collected, and cordial to all he meets and is a dedicated family man. As an Arab he is also very hospitable, especially to guests, unexpected or invited, but he loves to entertain as much as Fatima. As a proud Muslim, it saddens him that some see his faith as warlike and oppressive to women and musicians. Jamal himself treats his wife and daughter as equals and with utmost respect. He also enjoys the music of his native land but not so much contemporary music. Despite this love of Islam, Jamal is a far cry from the offensive religious zealot stereotype as he respects all other beliefs save for atheism, with which he passionately disagrees but grudgingly tolerates because he knows that true faith comes from the heart and can't be forced. Jamal is also a known lover of history as well as myths and legends; particularly the legends of the Middle East.

In battle, however, Jamal changes into a hot-blooded warrior whose swordsmanship keeps opponents on thier toes. He loves to challenge like-minded modern warriors in duels despite Fatima's objection to fighting. Like his young charges in the Celestia Foundation, Jamal is a Chōjin. His powers include Typhokinesis, that is, the ability to manipulate Smoke, and the ability to create razor-sharp vaccums of Air from his hands among other abilities.

Seijyūken: Jamal’s Seijyūken is the Roc Talon, a Scimitar carved from the talons of the Roc, a giant eagle from Arabic Myth. It corresponds with the Constellation Aquila, the Eagle.
