Yup, although I must admit that I prefer them in Shelby Blue and white.

It was, I think, a launch version. It had the shelby blue/white stripes color, with white wheels instead of black wheels.

I'm thinking more along the lines of the mid-90ies, like the one in Attila-le-ain's picture above, the original man-eating GTS with the Lamborghini designed aluminium-block V10. A buddy of mine worked for Transport Canada and he once told me that the statistical life span of a new Viper in the early new-millenium was about five hours.Β

"Statistical Life Span" = Gasoline?

No, until the new and inexperienced driver (or a member of their household, friend, etc) wrapped it around a light post or a guard rail.
You have to remember, these cars had no driving assistance whatsoever and demanded the utmost respect from the driver. Just like the Porsche Turbo twins (934/935) before them, if you got distracted for a fraction of a second you'd lost the rear end and would go off the road backwards or sideways.

RΓΆhrl was a top WRC driver throughout the 1970s and 1980s who won the Monte Carlo Rally four times with four different car manufacturers. He beat the Audi Quattro driving a rear wheel drive Opel, to the point that the following year Audi hired him to drive the Quattro. Niki Lauda once called him a "Genius on wheels." He beat Bobby Unser's time at Pike's Peak by 22 seconds driving an identical car, another Audi Quattro. He was voted "Rally driver of the Century" in Italy, and in 2000, he was voted "Rally driver of the Millennium" in France. IMHO, he is simply the best sports car driver in history.
