Description Gone are the days when magic was strong.
When Right was right, and Wrong was wrong...

The dragons are sleeping,
The gryphons are too.
The faeries are trying to hide from you.

The pheonix stopped rising,
The sirens won't sing.
The elves have stopped making kids wonderful things.

The werewolves can't change.
The witches can't curse.
The vampires have lost their teeth and their thirst.

The angels have fallen.
The demons are dead.
We've murdered the monsters beneath your bed.

The ghosts are just shadows.
The ghouls are the wind.
There is no gold, rainbows have no end.

Your love is just hormones.
Your heart just pumps blood.
You can't win her heart, your love spell's a dud.

There is no more magic.
The dead can't be seen.
You're imagining things, it's all just a dream.

Gone are the days when magic was strong.
When Right was right, and Wrong was wrong.
Gone is the past, the present is now.
And humans rule the world somehow.

I hate that poem

I could not have put this sentiment into words better myself. The poem is amazing and I believe it is just tragic that people are letting go of the most enduring part of humanity. The magic we all used to believe in should never be forgotten. (Sorry, I'm kinda a bit caught up in this subject)

This resonates with me. I'm 22 now, but I still feel like I'm 12. I think your perspective on maturity is a lot more mature than the common perspective, which seems to involve never having fun ever again.

Thank you, I'm glad you appreciate my views~! I've always defined maturity as "being able to avoid pain, both the causing and the receiving." Once you know how to avoid causing pain to someone or receiving it from someone's unkind words, and even how to cause pain when necessary, you are emotionally mature in my book.
Some people are naturally good at one or all of these, and are thus more mature than others by nature. But it's experience that brings knowledge, and knowledge of pain and how to avoid it is what allows people to be mature and live happily in this world with others.

Well said. I think the best way to live is to do what makes us happy, and not hurt anyone. It may not be possible to be absolute about it, but that's what we should aim for.

An idea that made a major impression on me a long time ago is that fear is only the anticipation of pain. When you consider that fear leads to a lot of horrible actions, it's very important to sort out why we fear things and what kind of pain we think something will cause us. A lot of fears turn out to be irrational, and knowing it's irrational helps me to let go of it. I think it's made me a kinder person.

This is true. However, if we only do it half-way, and do not resolve our fear of everything, and only the things most apparent, than that will make us seem unusual or unpredictable. That can lead to a misinterpretation of our actions, and misunderstandings have caused quite a lot of pain in my experience. I thought I had conqeured nearly all of my fears, but there weere some things that I didn't know I was afraid of, and that made my actions strange and unusual. Strange for me, that is. Being different is fine, as long as you're yourself.

You're certainly right about that. I've had it happen before that I changed one thing about myself and allowed something else to surface, which surprised me terribly when I figured it out. But... maybe that's what youth is for. If we do this enough times, maybe we'll grow up to be the kind of people we've always admired. I know I'm not there yet. >_>

Have you ever read Way of the Peaceful Warrior? This conversation just reminded me of it. I don't remember it well because I read it at least 6 years ago, but it had some worthwhile ideas. The guy telling the story drove me nuts, but his teacher was awesome.

Thanks! It's my favorite poem, I almost can't believe I came up with it! ('Cept the rythem is most definetly mine, so that reassures me that I didn't accidentally steal it. That and the last stanza. And that I can still remember writing it. Okay, nevermind, I can believe it's mine now.)
