Description A watercolor piece done back in 2012.

"Kathakali is a highly stylized classical Indian dance-drama noted for the attractive make-up of characters, elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion. It originated in the country's present day state of Kerala during the 17th century and has developed over the years with improved looks, refined gestures and added themes besides more ornate singing and precise drumming."

Those costumes are SO colourful. They really shine when you're using watercolour.
Have you ever seem a Kathakali dance yourself?

I know! I've only seen videos of Kathakali dance (took a class about Asian theater) but I instantly fell in love with the colors of their costumes and face paint. The dances are really interesting- have you seen any? If not, check them out!

I've only seen it in videos too. The sense of rythm of it is quite remarkable, every sound and gesture perfectly timed. Must take a lot of practice.
