Let me see if I can guess what's going on: it looks like they're praying before a shard of glass. Coupled with the title, could this be a post-war ritual done asking forgiveness from the gods for having followed the false Prophets into genocide?
I'm also digging the scar on the guy's back. It looks like the IRIS symbol. With his green eyes, I might guess it's our lovely friend Rtas, but he's a little unmangled and that towel's he's wearing hasn't been stolen yet.
Unless it's a curtain...

And you, sir, are spot on! That was indeed the concept behind this. Some fellas just got to cope, you know? The idea of a powerful alien race having to come to terms (or in some cases continue to struggle with/deny) that they royally effed up is a huge area of interest for me.
The big scar on the elite's upper back is the Mark of Shame. (Self inflicted or not, who knows?) I hadn't intended it to be anyone in particular, but I gave him green eyes so they would give a spot of contrast against all the red. (Also I just like green eyes okay Rtas spoiled me HE HAS THEM DARN IT.)
Also it could totally be a curtain, you never know.

When drawing this I didn't have any particular characters in mind, though the elite at the back does have a very similar build to Tulkas (he'd be even buffer, though -- eek! I was no doubt channeling him, though.) I started sketching and found an interesting composition and just went from there.
The concept of heresy and a shifting Covenant/sangheili society is still one of the most interesting subjects to me, so I wanted to draw something with it... in a slightly abstracted way, just to touch on what may be a glimpse of that after the Great Schism.

Although its a new account, I've been knocking around for a long time, and been following her fanfiction since early 2007.
Tulkas was always a stand-out character, even if he hadn't made too much of an appearance in the main fic before it was put on hiatus.
He had a genetic anomaly which made him much both taller and far more muscular than most Sangheili.
Since Icca likes to focus on the slimmer, more elegant design for her Sangheili, the more bulky guy at the back makes me think its probably Tulkas.

Well. As Kaine had been commented there, then I better say something: I had actually role-played with him and took quite amount of familiar concept from your fanfic with tweaks to built up a story together. That part had ended with extraiondary success and he never regret and ever wish to forget that moment during the storytelling.
I must admit the H2 part is what caused me to addict Halo universe into extreme level, but I kinda disappointed that Bungie and 343 decided to go-arcade and made the whole game into more profitable manner instead of the Sci-fi immersion that what made Halo famoused.

Thank you very much! And yeah, the Halo 2 sangheili design is still my favorite. I was unhappy with the constant redesign of them after the second game and never bothered to adjust my style, so it's still heavily H2-influenced. Oh well!
