It's my understanding that this is a work of fiction---can you give me an idea of the story or if the Prof. mentioned doing any research on it?

ภาพนี้ผมวาดเป็นภาพหน้าปกของนวนิยายอิงประวัติศาสตร์เรื่อง "บันทึกความทรงจำของ เคโกะ คารรายุคิซัง"
ประพันธ์โดย รศ.ประทีป ชุมพล (คณะโบราณคดี ม.ศิลปากร
นิยายเรื่องนี้เป็นนวนิยาย อิงประวัติศาสตร์ ที่สะท้อนภาพสังคม - เศรษฐกิจ - การเมือง ในห้วงเวลาก่อนและหลัง สงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 ทั้งของญี่ปุ่นและประเทศไทย ญี่ปุ่นอยากเป็นมหาอำนาจจึงได้ส่งคนนอกประเทศเพื่อหาเงินกลับเข้าประเทศ คนญี่ปุ่นที่เป็นคริสเตียน คือ ประชาชนกลุ่มแรกที่ต้องถูกเนรเทศ
ชาวญี่ปุ่นในชนบทบางกลุ่มที่นับถือศาสนาคริสต์มักถูกข่มเหงจากหมู่บ้านพวกโรนิน หรือซามูไร ถูกทรมานและฆ่าอย่างเลือดเย็น เคโกะเป็นหญิงสาวที่ต้องอพยพจากภัยสงครามภายใน เธอถูกส่งตัวมายังประเทศไทยในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 ทั้งที่เธอไม่รู้จักประเทศไทย ตัวละคร และสถานที่ ที่ปรากฎในนิยายล้วนอิงกับหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์จริง ทำให้สถานีโทรทัศน์ NHK ของญี่ปุ่นได้เข้ามาถ่ายทำเป็นสารคดี คนญี่ปุ่นจะสนใจเรื่องราวของชาติตัวเองมาก เพราะตัวละครในเรื่อง เป็นกลุ่มคนญี่ปุ่นกลุ่มแรกที่ถือว่าเข้ามามีความเจริญสัมพันธ์ไมตรีกับประเทศไทย
นักวิจารณ์บทประพันธ์กล่าวว่า "เคโกะ" ไม่ต่างจาก 'แม่พลอย' ในละคร 'สี่แผ่นดิน' และ 'อังศุมาลิน' ใน 'คู่กรรม' ที่ล้วนแล้วแต่ ได้รับผลกระทบ จากเมืองระดับประเทศ เศรษฐกิจตกต่ำ ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ และสงคราม"
ผมวาดภาพนี้ ออกมาให้ดูคล้ายภาพพิมพ์ญี่ปุ่นและผสมผสานฉากหลังที่เป็นเมืองไทย (ภาพนี้ถูกนำไปใช้เป็นปกนิยายในเวอร์ชั่น อังกฤษและญี่ปุ่นครับ

I have studied some immigration from Japan to Siam. Generally many Japanese during the Rama V era entered Siam to develop the silk industry.
I really hope to read this book one day!
