Looks cool man.. That same thing annoyed the hell out of me too with Cairo dock, i guess they improved it now - it still looks the best! I don't like this Unity launcher thing neither, it's like a full screen stacks with a search feature? Right? Does seem that it's being different for the sake of it, like why not just improve one of the docks? I do wonder why they don't chose Cairo or AWN as the system default, it's the first thing most people install. I don't like this 'creeping' towards so many iOS features in desktop OS. What you think?

Yeah i know what you mean. I don't like this transition to iOS type operating systems. The idea is to limit our access, to get us used to the idea of not looking into the file system - i think. Did you see the news about iPhone tracking journeys etc? Well if we had no access to the file system, those guys wouldn't have found that tracking file..
I think you get what i mean.

sure. it also pretty much wins the war on file sharing. the kids in ten years won't be taught the same old basic file management skills. open the app, it'll automatically handle the files for you. pay 25cents to export to email or cloud.

i did. its fun, especially browsing the web. it is no doubt the fastest way to browse the web. but that's mostly it. watch netflix, google, read. advanced functions, no. its basically an expensive ass toy.

its pretty neat. you can get it at launchpad [link]

try ubuntu! its free and whats best about it is that it usually just works out of the box as far as drivers go as long as your hardware isn't too old

yeah! i like the concept, but unity should never have made the distro in its current state. they probably wanted to be first xD

the second one which i'm guessing isn't the one you're after is called as far as you can see wallpaper.. the first one however was named according to its size in the download (kinda dumb, i've done it before too) so i have absolutely no idea what it was called, sorry

Nice job Aaron!
I recommend however, switch to the Avant-Window-Navigator (AWN), it's much better than Cairo.

Ah, I didn't know that. I'm not really a fan of GNOME3 at all, I try to stay on the GNOME2.x / Windows / OS X side of things. GNOME3 just feels a bit too childish for me, I don't know. Then again, I just bought a Mac, so...

Okey, thanks.
If it works for rainmeter is cool... I just use that, Rainmeter only. Too much app for my PC lol

that launcher-thing on the bottom (fills screen) is slingshot?
I was hoping for more of a dock, but it seems all these new things (Unity, Gnome-Shell, etc.) are going for the flood-the-user-with-icons approach. :/

Aaron-A-Arts In reply to theRealPadster [2011-05-01 16:58:04 +0000 UTC]
its slingshot. and i actually like it.. it is faster than the standard gnome "main menu" unfortunately the problem still exists where you have a menu.. its just horizontal and at the top like it traditionally is instead of a popup. the thing is my hand remembers the motion used to launch an app more easily this way(to put it as dumb simple as possible)

hmm, okay.
i find a regular menu quicker, but maybe i have to get used to this way of doing things.

not really.. ya know there will always be a way to customize your distro to be basically exactly what you want, give or take. its why i ditched win7 and haven't looked back. natty/unity pissed me off, so now i'ma run eos for a while. omgubuntu did a nice short write up on fedora that peaked my interest.

its feels too much like ubuntu is preping for a future dominated by touch tablets and neglecting my desktop. unity blows

I'm really hoping it's not the future, or at least it won't me mine. Hate the touch sh1t.
