Description Finally, here's another painting of mine!

I started this painting unbelievable 3 years ago (in fact, even a bit more than 3 years)!
I just didn't work on it too often, I am not that good in painting figures and I got bored when I've painted nothing else than human bodies for hours, and, last but not least, I was busy with commissions during the last couple of months (or even years). I also had several other ideas for paintings in the meantime, which sometimes were easier to paint, so I did them first.
So these are the reasons why this painting took me so long (plus the amount of details in it).
Anyway, I hope you like it! (and keep in mind that the biggest bodies are just about 7 cm high on the original painting - it was hell to paint them with brushes)

The facts:

Title: Zyklus (cycle)
Media: Acrylics on watercolor-cardboard
Width / height: 40 cm x 50 cm
Painting time: no idea, but I think at least 90 - 100 hours
(plus several hours of searching for reference photos in the www and making own photos)

Edit:
Now you can get posters of this image (among others) on my website: www.markusvesper.de
It looks this way: markusvesper.de/english/Bilder…

Edit2: I've uploaded the image with my homepage in it, sorry for that, but I have noticed that someone has uploaded one of my paintings on facebook and pretended that he has painted it. So, I'm afraid, I'll have to do this with all my paintings in future...

Great idea and well-rendered as usual. It pretty much sums up life and our mortality.

Not sure how I didn't see this painting until just now... BUT - wow, this is great!

I can really feel the Michael Whelan influence in this piece - Whelan is one of my all time favorite artists/illustrators; it is meant as a huge compliment.Β

I love all the detail, and especially the falling 'leaves'. Β And the nice touch of reflected lavender-ish light on the tree to really give it a lot of depth.
Β  Β Just crazy good, everything!

Thanks a lot!
In fact, Michael Whelan's work also had a big impact on my painting (although not that much specifically on this one), I liked his art long before I was able to even paint in a mediocre way.

I feel you there! (Even though i'm still probably painting in a mediocre way ) Michael Whelan's stuff is what really got me into wanting to be an illustrator in the first place.Β

I like your "Circus bubbles", "Firebird" and "Anima Sola" paintings, btw.

AFANTINI [2015-03-09 13:48:00 +0000 UTC]

Considering the short drying time of acrylic and the nuanced treatment of textures and shadows, the final result on canvas looks astonishing as it was an oil work on a larger surface. The phytomorphic allegory of the human lyfe cycle of birth, growth and death is excellently executed and quite familiar to my own imagery (I can even see reminiscences of the style of Palencar and similarities to the decorative patterns of Hindu temples).

I was about to comment on the subjects of this painting in a bit boring way, such as "the evergreen symbolism of the tree and time", and then I realized that the painting is hand-made. Just. Wow. I really can easily believe that it took that long to make this, it's .. flawless! Except for that light area on the right side of the tree, or is it intentional? In any case it creates a bit more mystique to it.. I'm gonna look further to your gallery. This is just stunning

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Acrylicdreams In reply to Kaislea [2013-09-22 22:32:00 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, thanks a lot!
Yes, it was intentional, although it does not have the effect that I was looking for. But anyway, it's not that easy to alter an acylic painting too much and I'm happy how it came out.

Geez man, this is impressive. Did you ever name any of the figures? Haha xD One of the girls in the front acts almost like a centerpiece to me, she stands out so clearly.

I misread the hourglass in the back though as floating, it's standing far in the distance right?

Really cool concept though. Amazing.
