I think this might be the closest to how I picture these characters in my head when I read the book. Well done!

That is one awesome doodle.

ONE GLORIOUS DAY!
It's on the list. Really, it is. If it kills me, I will make a comic.
And then I shall alert you to the fact.

Please alert me as well. God I wish I had time to draw without freaking out about whether or not I'm forgetting an assignment.

Will do! Any suggestions - favourite scenes and dialogue and whatnot?

I FEEL YOUR PAIN. I am trying so hard to be a good student right now, with the result being that the only remotely creative thing I've done in aeons is carve a pumpkin for Halloween.
GOD IT IS DEPRESSING.

Hmmm, I don't know, sometimes I like to imagine new scenarios for them, but my mind is mush and so low on creativity that I can't think of anything good. Something that really shows their personalities and relationship, though. I love how Jane is such a force to be reckon with, despite being "plain and little". I can see them having a small quarrel and Jane always coming out on top, and Rochester not minding much. I don't know. It's the best I can think of for now.

I can't wait for winter break, when I'll have some time to be normal before the madness starts up again.

OMG WINTER BREAK PLZ.

I have to say - it's a brilliant novel!! I am completely in love with Jane Eyre!! Why is it I fall for the FICTIONAL characters? ^_^'

but i can't say what's just happened, incase someone reads it and it spoils it for them!!!!

Have you read Wide Sargasso Sea? By Jean Rhys?

AdAbsurdum In reply to StrayNote [2009-03-02 08:52:22 +0000 UTC]

GAH, sorry. You've probably finished it by now!
Yes, I have read "Wide Sargasso Sea", and I loved it. I found it very dreamlike and disturbing... it reads like some kind of lush tropical nightmare.
I have a hard time connecting it with 'Jane Eyre' though, since the style and mood are so radically different. Rochester is practically unrecognizable as the same character.
I do recommend it though.

oh my GOD, Japanese 201...it's a nightmare. I know I sound overdramatic but the particles are KILLING me! I just want out!

And I feel so crappy about my drawing right now. Honestly, your style is perfect for it.

I hate when my imagination can't be projected onto paper.

Squee! I'm re-reading Jane Eyre at the moment! \o/

I always imagine her as being very dark haired, but I think that's because my brain's been tainted by various tv adaptations that always went with a very dark haired actress.

*Anyway*, the eye colour you gave her and her facial structure in general is made of *win*

SQUEE INDEED.
Thank you! I'm glad a fellow fan approves!

I just remembered him saying "hazel eyes and hazel hair", so I went with lighter hair.

SOOOOO what's your favourite film adaptation so far?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EsmeArmitage In reply to AdAbsurdum [2008-12-11 23:06:05 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, I dunno. I haven't seen one for ages, although when I studied the book in high school I watched about 6 in close succession XD

There was a really terrible one produced in the late 70s/early 80s where the actress playing Jane was about 35 pretending to be 18 and it was generally made of fail XD

There was a really good one made in ... 2002? 2001? Generally I like the ones that stick to the story rather than just going off and doing something random. I remember seeing one where they made this big scene of Jane getting her hair cut off at school and I was like "Yeah, because dedicating 30 minutes of the film to a non-canon event shows epic directorial skill >_>"

Aanyway, I think I'm starting to ramble pointlessly, which means it's past my bedtime XD

I think so far I like the 2006 BBC adaptation the best (I think that's the one you're talking about)...Jane was perfect - but I sort of resent how they dumbed the dialogue WAY down. *humph* Where's Andrew Davies when you need him??

Yeah, I remember the one with the hair-cutting. Franco Zefirelli's, I think. That was... terribly uneven. He crammed the last third of the book into five minutes at the end, I seem to recall.

And there was one miniseries made in 1973 where they got Rochester (Michael Jayston) almost exactly right. The rest wasn't all that inspiring, but they did keep the proposal scene completely intact - points for that!

My favorite is Dracula by Bram Stoker. You should check it out if you haven't read it. It's not dumb like most of the movies are hehe.

I actually did read it - on Halloween three years ago! It was fantastic - genuinely scary!

I haven't seen any of the film adaptations - which one's the least worst, would you say?

LimeGreenBunny In reply to AdAbsurdum [2008-12-12 01:08:07 +0000 UTC]

That's awesome that you've read the book. Not many people have.
Well the only one I've watched all the way through was Nosferatu. I've read the plot summaries for the others though, and they like, mix up the characters and majorly change the plot and stuff. Nosferatu was the first Dracula movie made and it was a silent film haha. It was amusing, and not a bad movie overall, though the end is completly different.

I've got that on hold at the local library right now! Sure looks creepy... Werner Herzog always makes really strange movies.

I kinda wanna see the one with Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing, though. Just 'coz it's Anthony Hopkins.

LimeGreenBunny In reply to AdAbsurdum [2008-12-13 07:56:45 +0000 UTC]

Actually, the Werner Herzog one i think was a remake of the original, which I was talking about. It was made in like the 1920's haha.
Yeah, I'd kinda wanna see that one too, and the Bela Lugosi one.
