The 'space pirate' and adventuress Ryoko, of the classic anime series Tenchi Muyo!

The original Tenchi Muyo! was a lighthearted sci-fi series that featured the 'one guy surrounded by several girls' concept, and did it better than any other anime series before or since, and even the more risque moments are handled with considerable good taste and humour. The series also touched on some interesting ideas and featured some splendid designs.

Ryoko was the primary character after the lead Tenchi, and she was a joy. Playful and brazenly immodest, wielding superhuman powers ( flight, teleportation, passing through solid objects, incredible durability, regeneration, energy projection and manipulation, etc ) yet much sweeter than she liked to admit in spite of a wicked sense of humour and short temper. Much of her character was brought to life for the English speaking audience by the vocals provided by Petrea Burchard, who made Ryoko so warm sounding and fun for every incarnation of the character throughout the 1990's.
