It looks like an attempt at recreating the star forge

What is the idea (function wise) of the large panels protruding from the bottom? Useful or not they defiantly sell the imperial aesthetic.

They would have storage space in them and tons of utilities such as generators, scanners, communications etc.

Looks Imperial all right; dark, sharp edges, evil.

Nice job.

Thanks The simplistic design made it look evil without me even realising it... I guess it was good that I didn't try to overthink it and just went with the flow.

Now that I think about it, most imperial designs are quite simplistic, I mean just look at the Deathstar.

AdamKop In reply to tonystardreamer [2014-01-29 21:58:12 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they all could be described with very few geometrical shapes - star destroyers were basically wedges, TIE Fighters were composed of a ball and two panels. I guess the simplicity made it all look grander and more mysterious, because no one would ever think of a ball that could bring death to entire planets

tonystardreamer In reply to AdamKop [2014-01-29 22:33:49 +0000 UTC]

Simple but effective, I mean look at the Star Destroyers, every single gun battery could focus on one target because of it's wedge shape. And the layout of the TIE Fighters made them small thin targets for the anti-fighter turrets on the ships they are diving towards.

Yep, most of the time a simple design leads to the best results I remember Slave I being the worst ship to use in Rogue Squadron games - it was just too stupid due to its strange shape

I don't recall if there were any direct measures for it, but it is at least 500 meters tall

This is superb work sir - and better - your skills should be hired by Lucas to make the franchise work again!

Stuff like this makes me interested back into Wars.

you are becoming the new Ralph McQuarrie!!!

Colourbrand In reply to AdamKop [2014-01-27 18:39:10 +0000 UTC]

Well I think so - this capture the Imperial Empire perfectly; its dark, foreboding, sithy - need I say anymore?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamKop In reply to Colourbrand [2014-01-27 20:37:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I guess it's pretty good overall - I am quite happy with it However, I still feel like I'm missing "something" to make it a timeless design.

Thanks It took me a few tries to get it right, but as always, the most simple design proved to be the best.

Vanguard3000 In reply to AdamKop [2014-02-03 02:34:30 +0000 UTC]

No way, it's great.  I like how the vanes on the outside are barely visible... it adds to the foreboding of the picture.  It also makes it look vaguely TIE Fighter-ey.

reminds me of the Star Forge.

what kind of ship is that at the hangar?

AdamKop In reply to Seeras [2014-01-25 16:54:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks The ship exiting the hangar is my Sienar Scout ship -

I might as well add it to the description.
