Description Hey you! Feel free to download this to your computer, but don't use it anywhere on the internet without my permission, or you'll have me, my watchers, and my online buds to deal with. Don't be an art thief!

Edit: It was a bit dark and contrasty for my liking, I had to change it.

This is a request at Another Studio [link] for Lionheart. Meet her character Dogwood, a mare who is quite the little spy. She's pretty quiet, and that's how she gathers information. Then she sells it to the highest bidder, so to say. When she's not trying to be inconspicuous she can be rather sassy, hence the OMG ACTION POSE going on here. ^.^

Woohoo! For once a mane and tail I can live with! I'm pretty proud of this one. I drew the mane and tail from scratch, and they actually have a pretty decent shape!

I love encouragement and suggestions for improvement, and I respond to all comments. ^.^

WOW. My favorite piece of yours. I LOVE the colors/lighting/sharpness, how did you do that?!

Oh, thank you! It's one of my all-time faves too, I'm really happy that you noticed it.

It's been quite a while since 2008 when I made this, but I often apply photo filters on different blending modes to play with the colours. Cloudy coloured textures with different light and dark areas are also really great for making parts of the image pop. Difference clouds can be blurred to form this effect. I'm a sucker for contrast, and I loved how some of the layers I laid over the image emphasized the shadows to reinforce the lighting. The sharpness is just careful use of the Sharpen filter on my resized dA copy, nothing magical.

Thanks very much for your question, and please don't hesitate to ask if you're curious about anything else! Though, to be honest, when things work out right for me it's usually a fluke. I'm generally lame at stylizing, blending is all I know. Lots of trial and error. Mostly error.

Try these [link] , I use them for everything! Sand, snow, dirt, fog, they're so versatile. Just eyedropper a midtone colour from the surface, and don't be afraid to mix, match and dodge and burn the brushes to suit!

As someone who played with dogwood in one of her haydays, I can honestly say this fits her very well. It made my day seeing this in its DA form.
