"Have you ever thought it was strange that there was an entire race of which every member dedicated themselves to being the perfect bodyguard for those who not only needed protection or knowledge, but who could also afford taking care of another person? Isn't it odd that there seems to be nothing but companionship for us? That we ask for nothing other than a home and food and yet risk or lives to keep someone else safe as well as share our knowledge with them? . . . .Questions like these are what Kilik sought answers too and through it he was able to learn something that we don't generally publicize because people would rather not know it. The truth is that yes, it is very odd that we are a race of bodyguards because most historical records will tell you that people tend to live for themselves or their own races and are generally abrasive towards others. Now, while living in dedication to another is not only very rewarding for us emotionally, it is also what keeps us safe. Many tens of thousands of years ago, possibly hundreds of thousands, the customs our race practice today did not exist. Back before Earthra was ever a faction, Guardians lived among the other races much like any other race of angel, or even the humans did. Back then it was common knowledge that forming a bond with a Guardian could save your life from fatal wounds and because of that our race was hunted, enslaved, and traded like some sort of exotic item. Our favor for Caelius stems from this time period because it was they who protected us the most while it was Areans who were the most responsible for raiding villages and kidnapping young Guardians to keep as safe guards for when they fought in battle. Eventually the Guardians as a whole retreated from visible Zion in order to protect ourselves from those who wanted to use us for selfish reasons. During that time the knowledge of our healing abilities became rumor and we almost became a myth. While we were indeed safe then, we were also completely cut off from any interaction with the rest of Zion and we found that while we could care for our own race well, it was lonesome and stagnant. Longing to continue to interact with the rest of the races, our current system of acting as a bodyguard was developed. We would serve others and in return they kept us safe and allowed us to see the rest of Zion in person by letting us borrow their DNA for a lifetime. In the present days the rumor about our blood pacts being able to save lives has attracted more interest because of this war. We have once again had to withdraw considerably in order to avoid a repeat of far past history, but we do not want to shut ourselves off from Zion again. The stigma of a Fallen Guardian comes from ancient times and is a label placed by Caelians and past experience with Areans. However, times change and while Fallen Guardians may be sought after for prestige they are still much safer than an unbonded Guardian. . . . . . When you and Emiris were bonded not only did you save his life but you allowed for him to remain in Zion and gave him something to focus on, a goal, instead of blaming himself for being unable to protect Evah. If he would have returned to us in the beginning he would have been taken home and given the same care and love as if he weren't bonded anymore. However, I can speak from experience when I say that after only 26 years of seeing Zion, and not much of Zion at that, home becomes more like a prison when you cannot leave for a long time and waiting for someone to die so that he could be free would have torn Emiris's emotions apart more than anything that has happened to him so far. Because of you he may have been hunted by a few people wanting to exchange him for a pat on the back, or a pathetic book, but it is also because of you that he was protected from thousands of others who would have imprisoned him every second of every day. It is also because of you that he was able to heal and move forward so soon after Evah's death. We were wrong about Caelians being our fair and just protectors, why can't you help us be wrong about Areans as well? You may not be Evah, but she isn't what he needs now. To us he will always be our Little Emir, a change in appearance will not deter our sentiment for we are more than used to it."
