Description In addition to the ten alien species of the Federation universe, there's also a species genetically engineered by humans.

Again, biologist makes aliens when bored.

Woooo Artherians!

It's cool that you finally provided a reference for them, it proves just how much you've solidified. I remember when you first brought these babes up, and we were sort of digesting it in our heads. You've come a long way and it shows! The timeline is incredibly helpful, the size chart puts things into perspective, and there are just enough images to keep our attention. I also like how you laid out the reference, too.

I'm not normally a fan of "manmade furries", but you handled it very well. As I mentioned before, it makes sense because the first line is all domesticated animals: dogs, horses, cats, and deer are animals man has and always will use. The Malakh, Toen, and Chieron lines were humans trying to push their limits. Haha! The story of their self-actualization is so sad but interesting, and I'm happy they're now persons in their own right. I'd imagine there's still a lot of animosity between the two, but luckily the Federation offers plenty of breathing room.

The only suggestion I have to offer would be to rework the names by adding a secondary "humanized" name. Most of these names are too fantasy/sci-fi to have human origin. Think of the context of the subspecies, then dig into other languages for better names. Wiktionary and Etymonline are great resources for this. For example, the rafim could be European-funded and thus its name derives from the Czech "roh" and English "finish"-- "roh-finish" or "finished deer". Have fun and mix it up!

I really like the Malakh, by the way. Hoooo man, the Chaedan'kai would NOT be pleased to see these things around, their culture resents playing god already so seeing a part-chaedan'kai would definitely cross the line. Do they see the Malakh any differently than the other Artherians, or are all the same in Chaedan'kein eyes?

Those boxer chimps though. ;;

Gosh this comment got long, I'm so sorry Aeden! Super job overall, great race and I admire your worldbuilding. Keep it up, you are the bomb!

PS: ABSTRACT?! I love your use of this, but oh my goodness you just dragged yourself out of a thesis pile huh? Aaauh! A collective shudder from the science people. WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE.

If humans suddenly got access to this kind of technology, you can't tell me they wouldn't immediately start making cat-girls :b It was only recently I had the idea that the original concept had been for service animals. Such a good idea, and yet...It amuses me no end that all this fuckery resulted from under-paid, over-worked post-docs and lab techs :b We agree that is a remarkably realistic scenario.

I don't normally go for manmade furries either, but I've seen it done very well in a couple places. You know me with my love of culture clashes and ethical issues, so here's the biggest ethical issue in the Federation. I think the alien-based ones were attempts to "improve" up on the aliens. An erda, but bigger. A sunifee, but meaner. A chaeden'kai that can handle Earth gravity. Those needed a lot of help from the chaeden'kai to save them from genetic self-destruction. The Toen especially. They were so hyper-aggressive, the first breeding pair killed each other in the lab. There were some major arguments among the aliens, with lots of differing opinions. Some of the reengineering of the proto-Malakh served to make them *less* like chaeden'kai to make them more palatable.

As for the names, they're *not* human-based. The Artherians named themselves after segregating into the races. Humans didn't make Churii and Rafim. They made generic cat-people and generic deer-people. The reengineering and willing selective breeding led to these races. They were even MORE of a mess early in their history. By this point, each race has developed their own language (or had one made for them) to properly establish their independence from humans. Still working on the logistics behind all of that. Probably took at least a generation to develop and start implementing each one. I'm sure humans have names, insulting or not, for each type.

Yes I deliberately made this more like a scientific report since they were made in a lab. Seemed fitting to me.

Oh my goodness yes they would totally make cat ladies! We've wanted cat ladies since ancient Egypt. You're definitely right though, they are the flagship of all the Federation's ethical issues, and that's pretty cool! They really stand out, being a race entirely engineered-- no homeplanet of their own, a history that pulses with trouble, but at least they turned out alright in the end. Good on them for striking out on their own! Have you decided on what their "chunk" of space is like? Do they own any planets of their own?

Sorry for misconstruing who-created-what and the bit about the language. I'm a bit frazzled at the moment, so I appreciate you clearing that up!

I really like the science report format, it sets a strong tone!

Weeelll...a lot of Artherian history was decided on the fly while making this. I knew that they left Earth, because they just couldn't grow as a people there in humanity's shadow. And none of the other species could just take them and suddenly support thousands of new people. But I figured: the chaedan'kai have been looking for a suitable planet for centuries (their religion makes them impossibly picky), and have cataloged scores of habitable planets. So, the Artherians claimed a system with two habitable planets. They got a lot of help getting started, which I really haven't put proper thought into yet. I know a rough idea of where they are, but really that part is still all in development.

No worries, I don't think I made it very clear. You do have a very valid point, though.

I appreciate someone catching my faux-science format :b

ooh very cool. The world ever-expands and we meet lots of new creatures. I like their backstory and how they initially came about. Good to see they're considered their own race(s).

These guys have been bouncing around in my head for a long time. It's essentially an excuse to legitimately have furries :b but I do like all the social and ethical issues that go with it. Their cultures are still in the works; they have a joint planetary system and are I guess more like the EU or so. Different nations but closely allied. Fortunately the aliens were all insistent that they be their own people. A lot of humans were for it too, once the whole thing came to light. Their relationship with humanity is still pretty rough though :b
