This was a Fractal Explorer piece. [link] I was surprised at this one. After using the program for over 6 months constant, I wasn't aware that it could render something like this. Great program once you learn how to manuever around the limitations.

Thanks. I didn't plan on that, but several people have mentioned it which is great. I love Tolkien.

This is indeed very awesome. It looks navigational. But at the same time,it looks like a spell rune, adorned with skulls.Maybe I'm just morbid?

And then I read the Sauron thing above, that really made me think. Those movies went from moderately good,to let me out of the theater now.I liked the first one, except that Tom was absent.I also did not see the barrow wights...I went to the first movie to see 2 things. The Barrow Wights...and the balrog.I got one, didn't see what I really wanted to.I can't even watch the third one,it bores me.

I miss the books.I want to read them again.I read the Hobbit in the summer before second grade, and I think I read the Lord of the Rings in the third grade.I was gonna read the Silmarillion, but then my mom divorced my dad,and we moved out,I didn't get the chance to grab it.That was when I was in the sixth grade, I think.

Anyway, very awesome pic!

Thanks. The third one was actually the best of the three. Some of the greatest battle scenes ever. Also, get your hands on the Silmarillion. It's kinda hard to get into at first, but once you get over the introductions to all of creation, it rocks. Definately won't be able to put it down.

I can agree to the battle scenes stuff. But still,it bored me.

I shall try,I'll go pester my mom about it.She be a libtrarian.

It's a great image and I like your intepretation of it. I'm wondering if there's a way to increase the contrast between the central image and the "spectral" elements to increase the sense of depth?

Aeires In reply to exquisiteoath [2004-07-21 04:49:40 +0000 UTC]

I can try. It adapted well to manipulations, plus I know a few coloring tricks with the color palette. I'll check. If I can, I'll replace the image. Thanks for the suggestions.

As I mentioned in another one of your Deviations' threads, I'm going to try to offer some constructive stuff when I can. I know I respect the hell out of your work, both fractals and phtography, but if I can see something that might be usefull, I really feel that I do you no good if I don't share it.

Formor [2004-07-20 06:11:13 +0000 UTC]

Wonderful picture, man!!! It does look like a navigation chart!!! I can see what you mean, I also see many other features that are cleverly created, intentionly or unintentionally, inside it!! Much Egyptian, scarabs, eyes, and the all-prevading image of a fiery sun!!! Navigation charts ...hhhmmmm, were not the ancient Egyptians also some of the first star-gazers??? Beautiful work

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Aeires In reply to Formor [2004-07-20 06:57:00 +0000 UTC]

I forgot, the Egyptians were right up there with the Babylonians at using the stars for different things. Not sure who was first, but there's a lot of data on both cultures being astronomically minded. Not sure where the Summerians, Incans, and Mayans fit in with all this. Should ask my physics teacher. He also teaches astronomy.

Aeires In reply to Formor [2004-07-20 06:42:41 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! A lot of it was intentional. It adapted very well to change, so I kept hammering at it to get the details worked out. I specifically wanted the eye in the middle and the rays of the sun to go with the navigation rings. The rest just kinda worked out that way. When I was working on the sun, I was thinking of all your drawings.

Very well done, kinda looks like the eye of sauron in a way. Or how it should of, the movie eye of sauron looked like a vagina >__>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeires In reply to Lyenuv [2004-07-20 06:44:32 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. There was only two things in all three of the movies that I didn't like and the eye of Sauron was one of them. When I read that over 15 years ago, I imagined it as something totally different.

Lyenuv In reply to Aeires [2004-07-20 06:54:13 +0000 UTC]

15 years ago I was only three XD

I read them shortly before Fellowship came out, and got mad because there was no Bombadil >__>

They were good though.

Aeires In reply to Lyenuv [2004-07-20 07:01:01 +0000 UTC]

A good friend of mine was also upset that Tom Bombadil wasn't in them. That was a key part of the rings history that they unfortunately couldn't fit in. I'd like to see a movie made of the Silmarillion. That's my favorite book of the Tolkien stories. It's all about the creation of the world, the history of the elves, dwarves, and humans, and all the lore that led upto The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. It's hard to get into, but once you hit a certain point, you can't put it down. It explains Shelob, Sauron, Gandalf, Manwe's eagles that rescued Frodo and Sam, and tons of other great gems that make up the story.
