Description If you haven't noticed yet, this is supposed to be funny.

The idea is derived from (I can't say inspired by, because my contribution was not all that great) a comment made by in my website's [link] shoutbox: "Maybe the vampire likes his food kosher, no wait, that wouldn't work".
I have their permission to display this image.

I would also like to make it very clear that I am by no means an anti-Semite.

Hahaha! I find this very amusing and not at all offensive. So what exactly do Jewish vampires eat or drink if not humans? Chicken's blood? Somehow biting fangs into a potato knish doesn't cut it for me...

Is the potato unsatisfying... because you are a vampire o.o ?

I wouldn't make such a big deal about being named an anti-semitist or a racist or anything, to be quite honest I find it an inane and unneccasary tendancy of modern day humanity to be "On the look out" for people making even the slightest of racial or ethnic comments, I've been scrutinized for using the word "black", the bad thing being that I used it in the context of describing a picture a friend of mine drew in black and white, the git just assumed I was making a comment on black people.

Anyway, I find this funny, I like the subtle jokes

Aeonna In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2007-10-05 06:49:10 +0000 UTC]

I just added that line in case anyone found the joke hurtful.
I can agree that there is a tendency to be over-anxious about discrimination, but what's the alternative? It can't be denied that it does happen that people are mistreated because of their religion and ethnicity.
Although in your example you become the one who is unfairly treated. It's like a new form of discrimination: the widely applied suspiscion that someone might hold certain views.

It seems that humanity simply is incapable of making life easier for itself, all of our advances are limited to our intelligence and enginuity whereas our social advancements are limited to simply writing down that we accept people without actually becoing tolerant.
Sometimes I think that people don't deserve to have as muhc control over the world as they do, or don't deserve as much say in the government as they do, not until they can advance past the menial issues of peopel not thinking the way they do

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeonna In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2007-10-06 07:27:28 +0000 UTC]

Sure, but since we've now panned all of humanity nothing else remains than to hand the government over to the dolphins.
It will be... interesting... at the very least.

Personally I think that the current social situation is an improvement over the one that existed a hundred, or even fifty, years ago. Who knows what comes tomorrow? Maybe over-sensitivity about ethnicity is a passing phase.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Aeonna [2007-10-06 11:15:41 +0000 UTC]

An improvement maybe, but I've noticed that most if not all of these tolerancies were practically forced upon by protests and civil disobedience.

You know what I've never worked out? Humans have always thought up alien species that are technologically superior to us, but how many times have there been instances of us being the more technologically advanced and invading someone elses planet?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeonna In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2007-10-07 07:14:36 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say that tolerances were forced upon people, but it takes time to shift values and legislation is one way of aiding a set course. Could you give examples?

Concerning sci-fi, I think casting the human race as less advanced than another is partly because the possibility of such events supposedly teaches us some humility and partly because being the victim, or underdog is better story-material. No one wants to identify with the "imperialist". Not any more anyway.
In reality all the hopes that scientist dare hold for life on other planets, like Mars, are single-cell organisms. Which, despite our failings, we are more advances than.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Aeonna [2007-10-07 13:20:08 +0000 UTC]

By forced, I mean as in tolerance is made by law, the most obvious examples being black and womens rights, after either respective groups protested, the governments that adopted laws that practically bind people to be a little more tolerant.
That's what I meant by that, though in time people get used to it and gain some natural tolerance

I'm and Imperialist, I really am, some laugh at me for that. I think the reason people make aliens the more advanced because one can practically completely make up whatever technology or cultural patterns they want without the bounds dreaming up advacements for humanity, which can't become too seperated from modern technology without it becoming too unbelievable.

Aeonna In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2007-10-08 07:30:18 +0000 UTC]

We both live in democracies, wherein majorities have given support and special protection to certain groups. No such decision can be called forcing tolerance upon those of a different opinion. You can't change anyones views by making a law about it. All that is limited is your ability to express that opinion, in action or words, without there being consequence. Not having the right to ridicule someone because of their skin is not really that much of a restraint.
The suffragettes would not have achieved their goal if the governments had throught their demands completely unreasonable. It's hard to believe a group with no power could force the rulers to do anything unless they held a wide support.
I know you're not for slavery so I'm not even going to go into that. Nor do I think you oppose women voting, I just used it as an example.

You may say what you like, the person who took (wrongful) offence at your comment may say what he likes (and was probably quite ashamed of his/her mistake when it was revealed as such). All that remains is the pain of having a minority opinion.

I also think sensitivity can turn into paranoia sometimes, but going into tirades about it doesn't help the situation either, it just makes one seem "politically incorrect".

Can't write any more right now.

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Aeonna [2007-10-08 11:53:28 +0000 UTC]

Well it could well just be me being cynical really, however what I was referring to exactly, is that when a law like that is passed, then obviously a majority support it, or it wouldn't get passed right? However, that requires the minority to abide by this law (as they should) I'm just tryint o make the point that without the law put in place, that minority, which could very well be in the 40% of the population, would exist for generations before being fully purified of their intolerance.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeonna In reply to Daniel-Gleebits [2007-10-09 06:35:35 +0000 UTC]

That could make a definition of democracy; "a majority with a ligitimate way to oppress minorities".

Now I'm getting cynical too. The above would assume everyone acts purely out of self-interest.

Daniel-Gleebits In reply to Aeonna [2007-10-09 11:47:53 +0000 UTC]

Is that not the point of existence? Since the beginning of known life it has been the way fo organisms to saciate itself before other things, and it continues today in people. People who share and give purely out of the goodness of their hearts are life forms that have grown detatched from an instinct of their primitive nature.
But even the majority of them would rather take when they need something instead of give it away

I don't mean to be spreading my pessimism

Favourited.

I have to add that I am not an anti-Semite either.

Also, I have found that Jews are actually the ones who tell the most jokes about Jews. It's similar to me telling jokes about blondes, despite being blonde myself.
