Done in honor of the "It's Okay to be Takei Movement" and in protest of you know who, and I don't mean Voldemort.Vanilla Almond Cake with Buttercream Icing, decorated with Spritzed Sugar Cookies with Royal icing. (And yes, the cake was baked that way, those are not individually stacked layers.)

What is a "Takei?" -
Takei is in reference to George Takei. Last year it was outlawed to use the word Gay in some schools in a certain state. In protest George Takei, who is Gay himself, said his last name could be used in place of the word Gay to mean Gay. So it's okay to be Gay turned into It's Okay To Be Takei and spawned a movement.

I love the colors but the concept of takei is very egocentric. I would just say gay rather than reference a man who wants everyone to know his name. Plus as soon as everyone knows takei is being used for gay the state officials will just ban takei. Itβs all a plan to keep everyone using a new word that mainstream demographics wonβt know what youβre talking about, therefore youβre not properly spreading LGBT awareness youβre just indulging a self obsessed man for a little flash in the pan fame.

Wow, that was rather cynical but to each their own..... Believe what you will but as far as I have seen of his work says anything but that. (Heck, this would be the perfect thing for him to promote if he was that way, and other stuff like it, but he hasn't and trust me, fans of this have more than made him aware of it.)

2) How is being from London keep you from knowing who Sulu is from Star Trek? That is who Takei is. Star Trek is hardly a flash in the pan business or something that is only known in the USA.

Well obviously takei's acting carear was flash in the pan. Everything he's done since is not good enough to be acknowledged. I did not know who Sulu was because I don't watch Star Trek I actually like to get out and do things rather than waste my time with telly 24/7.
You don't have to know somebody to know he's egocentric you just need to be aware that he is trying to get everybody to know his name

O.o Slightly closed minded view isn't? He acted for a very long time, successfully, on the series and in the films. He then went to stage and is working successfully there. One does not need to watch the telly 24/7 to be aware of that. One can get out and about and still be aware of general pop culture.
Now pigeonholing someone and calling them egocentric because of self promotion does indicate perhaps a need to research a bit more. He spends a high portion of his time promoting himself yes but this leads to awareness in causes dear to his heart. Such as gay right here in the US, which sadly are not near what they need to be. And other causes as well, such as his work with making people here in the states more aware of the Japanese interment camps during WWII, which he was a prisoner of as a child, and helping educate people of the signs of a repeat that may happen here in the US. If we don't learn form our past we are bound to repeat it.
Yeah, he does promote himself but it does look to be for a greater purpose than his own profile. Though, in an industry such as the entertainment one, people are more likely to listen to someone famous than someone that is not. So yes, perhaps a big of ego could be in there but egocentricity is not only about wanting people to know your name. It is also about only caring for ones self - as per definition. Seems he cares a great deal about others through his works due to the struggles of his own life.
(And funny, most I have learned about him is a quick google search to check my knowledge about him due to your posts. So you actually helped me learn more about him during this, a great deal more. I see his posts and find him amusing, respect him just off what I have seen to a degree and yet from what I have learned over ten minutes here and ten minutes there due to your posts I have learned much more than I ever would have. With what I have learned I have grown to respect the man greatly because of his lack of ego. Interesting how that works. )

Well I guess I should stop arguing about this. I know I am not a fan of his work but I'm not going to keep putting down what he has done. I know what he has been doing is important and it does seem a little bit egocentric the way she likes to promote himself but I guess that is just his thing. I am just going to live and let live. He can do his thing. I will do mine. So other than that good cake. The cake is not a lie

I posted the link, as well as a couple of others on his Facebook page. Sadly I don't think it has been seen by him. He gets so many thousands of people visiting and posting to his page a day it would probably take a small miracle for him to notice it, lol. (He's an amazing man, it is understandable he would have such a vocal following. ^_^) I hope he does see it but if he doesn't, it's okay. Happy to do it anyways. ^_^
