Description I’m not sure if I have learned more about watercolors but at least practicing is funnier than I thought!

Tools: Watercolors and black marker on thick watercolor paper (size A6).

(I named this picture “Murikka” which is Finnish and means ‘chunk’ or ‘big piece of stone’.)

Cool colours and nice effect on the skin
Wait, I'm not the only one who uses Finn to name some dragons?

Thank you!

I usually try to come up with English names but sometimes I just can't find out anything proper and then I have to use my native language.

Well they say that Finnish isn't the easiest language in the world... But I guess every language has its own tricks. I'm happy to hear that you are practicing it!

Yep, I think endigns are difficult to handle if you don't have them at all in your native language. (I remember how hard it was to learn to use preposions when I was learning English in the first place because my language doesn't use them much. )

Love the horns, groovy colors.

Teach me how to draw eyes, I can't : (

Thanks!

Eyes... not that diffucult! First draw almond shape, then black circle inside it to mark pupil, another (colored) circle around pupil for iris and finally little white spot near pupil to represent light reflection. Basic eye is ready!

Nicely colored. Like the spottiness. The outlines could be a bit thinner on the part of the tail that is farther back in the picture and that will help on giving it more depth.

Hmmm.

I do like this piece, and the Murikka's expression is lovely
But I liked the first trial with the purple unicorn better.
Because it didn't have lineart, it had that dreamy flow to it.

This piece is fabulous, but maybe do more without a black outline?

Thank you for the feedback!
I'm testing different ways to paint with watercolors and trying to find what is best style for me. But I'm definetely going to make more experimentations without marker.

It's safe to assume this is a stone dragon, right? The name kinda implies that. I like how you gave it a small white outline. Looks very neat. I oughtta try something like that.

Agaave In reply to Scuter [2008-06-29 19:08:59 +0000 UTC]

Yep, you're right.
Something stony came into my mind when I painted those grey spots and that's where the name came too.

That small white outline easiers to avoid blending wrong colors.
But I also like how it looks like.

I guessed that's what the white outline was. Either way, it gives it a nice touch.

Kun luin tuon otsikon, ajattelin, että tarkoitit "B. Virtasen" Murikkaa. Eipä ollut se. Hieno kumminkin!

Kiitoksia kommentista!
