Description

I need to make practice on backgrounds, lasts that I made were for school. I'd like to do a softer watercolor, also less realistic.. I'll make others.
Anyway, I think that the photo that I used here is quite lovely, check it: formelle.tumblr.com/post/27633... ..and I'm so envious of such flourishing plants.

It is a very admirable art piece in most aspects! First of all I wanted to point out your great skills using watercolors; the details are very well done, and despite the fact that you mixed some colors here and there you were able to maintain a balance between them, without creating a messy combination.

Now passing to vision I am again very pleased, as I mentioned before the details are amazing (the vase, flowers, chairs, etc.). Perhaps the only thing that bothers me is the exaggerated light reflex on the yellow shirt of the woman, (unless it's the material itself that does that) it's a little too large and could be kept on the outline, along her back.

We then have the originality which is mostly positive thanks to the interesting choice of leaving the left side of the paper blank. Then I also noticed a contrast between the title and the work, which I can't tell if it's a positive or negative element, meaning that I'm not sure if it was done on purpose or not. The contrast is caused by the dark colors and "green care"; from the title one probably expected more bright and lively colors that portray life, instead we see a lot of dark colors on the ground, the plant on the extreme right, and the vases too. There is light clearly coming from the window, but it's not enough to enliven the room. To avoid the contrast one could've made the floor wooden, which would emphasize the concept of life, or even add more objects inside the room, which to me seems quite empty; or also turn the woman towards the light, enlightening her face and make it more visible, open and not cover it by the hair and the shadows.

This was a really long comment on one aspect but I wanted it make it clear, as I believe it wasn't so easy to catch without an explanation. And again, I cannot conclude if it's good or bad, but despite this it is always an amazing piece of art, and I envy your watercolor technique so much since I really suck at it D:

Keep up the good work e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>!

So, before saying anything I just want to tell you I am a long time admirer of your work, and wish I could manipulate your medium half as well as you do.

That being said, for this piece I really am only troubled by the composition. I actually saw the detail shot first, and my jaw dropped! After seeing this full one though, I must say cropping that white on the left would strengthen the whole work. The current crop is leaving the figure locked in the middle of the frame, impeding the movement of the eye like a wall. Even just hold your hand up to cover part of it and see what I mean.

Things that are working for me: Amazing use of neutral colors and compliments! The red/green on the table, the purple and yellow on the wall... It really helps the readability and focus.

I also admire the presence of your hand in the work- that can often be a problem when directly referencing a photo. You know, like "why paint this instead of just leaving it a photo?" You really took care to enhance the source material and make it yours. Not to mention, the detail is so finite and lovely: the flowers, her hair...

Another lovely work!

I loved the depth of this art piece, the colors are well played out for the characteristics of this detailed painting! I love how it is being portrayed~ I am a nice person but I am fairly honest and give great help to those who need it. This is an excellent piece, keep up the spectacular work that pierces people in the hearts. I know this painting probably doesn't mean something but if it does whether or not I just would like to say that this painting has cut me in the heart and I wanted to critique this one so badly~ "Critiqued by Critique-for-All"

This is lovely. You did an excellent job of translating the picture into a painting. You utilized your talent for abstract water color to soften the source picture. It gives the painting a sense of being out of time and space.
Your use of space reminded me of any of Johannes Vermeer's paintings but especially "Woman reading a letter" and "The Milkmaid".
Your background, like his did, draw the attention as much as the figures or "actions" occurring of in painting. It gives the painting a holistic feeling. It's peaceful without being empty. The colors are vibrant but not overpowering. The eye can take in the whole thing or examine little details without being overwhelmed.
All in all, I found your painting beautiful to look at and a real tribute to your skill.
