suddenly feel like practicing background coz i suck......=w=;;; Got out a "how to draw sci-fi" book by Francis Tsai (google him, lol), pretty amazing stuff. OWo Although the tutorial was a little succinct, i had to play it by eyes............TVT so much purple.....>_>;;; I really enjoyed drawing sci-fi background though...lol whether they look real is another matter...=w=;; ignore parts that defy the law of physic....orz
Anyone got good tutorial on painting background is welcome!!!
Painted in photoshop. with one layer!! (apart from the girl and the petals, they are on another layer) OAO
my gallery's so inconsistent now adays.....OTL...sorry, i like to experiment a lot...^,^;;;

thank you! that was a very well written critque, I must admit i was getting lazy as i get to the foreground, and thus the inconsistency. lol
(and correction those are red petals not blood. but will work either way. lol)

I like what you did with this piece. You used blues and reds, which give the images a darker feeling. You then lightened, but kept the blues and reds across the entire image. Then the girl is stark white, and your eyes are drawn to her. She is like a beam of light in a dark alley. It almost gives you the sense that she is vulnerable. I like the concept I getting from where she is walking- like she is teetering on the edge, walking a precarious path.
I like the technique you used to draw the background- the shapes are bold, with different tones and hues that give the objects depth. The yellow in the back is also very nice and warm, like a fire in the sky.
The lighting looks good, although I feel like you could have maybe extended the lack of light a little further out from the wall towards the girl, to give even more contrast. I may be missing something with that, though.
Overall, this is really nice. You're a very talented artist.

As an ink artist, I don't understand how you do such a great and impacting coloring job... It's remarkable and can be used as a precedent for other artists to better their coloring skills. Fantastic work!

Nope, I'm Canadian, but I spent four months wandering around NZ a few years ago doing a lot of tramping. I just have a real soft spot for NZ. It's my favourite country, outside of Canada of course.
