The final version. I haven't been able to draw a lot, so most of the time it's done during lectures. I worked for about two weeks on this guy. What's funny is that I started it before we got into Planetary Motion in Astronomy, and I noticed that the orbits of planets look like the background in this piece!
I tried my hand once again at blending, which was the most time consuming part. Methinks I'll make a huge print of this and hang it on my wall.
Mediums used: Cardstock, HB, 2B, 4B pencils, blending stump, ps for Hue/Saturation

I love this... by the way I know what you mean bout backgrounds (not having them often enough) - I too am trying to break that habit...! But sometimes it just seems so much better without one, in some circumstances...

You have so much more patience than I do - Hair is one of those things I get so frustrated trying to get right, and to do it the way you do would take me so much more patience. You do it well, you know it reminds me of Celtic Knotwork in some ways, you could go that route! I could even imagine some sort of broches woven into your lovely work.

Very cool! Yes I definitely understand how much patience...but the outcome is gorgeous, when done properly. I have seen a few artists like those in dA that incorporate such fantastic knotwork, but again I see a new direction you can take yours in. Adding your own, unique touch to art is really something special - I look forward to seeing more of your work.
I myself am (as we all are) still learning, and struggling with getting negative shapes to work well in images...hehe

^^ Hair does take lots of patience-especially when it's this long! I'm so glad you see it! (the Celtic knot reference) I'm in love with Celtic art and the knots-they make perfect backgrounds and work will with forming positive and negative space.

Lol-It's like the first background I've ever done! XD Usually I just leave it blank, with nothing. It's a really bad habit that I need to break, so the characters don't look like they're in a Void or something. Thanks for the nice comment! The hair was quite a challenge, but it all worked out in the end (notice how I said all) There's so much! XD

This is amazing! But you already knew that right? I love it. There's a soft flow in the image which makes it very pleasant to look at. His hair is gorgeous. Reminds me of... flames, cloth folds and strings. Wonderful!

You saw so many things in his hair. That makes me so happy^^ I love it when you can see different things like 'string' in a drawing. I tried to make his hair look like Vines. He can sprout out of the ground and take the form of Ivy as he pleases. Hey, that would be a fun story to write! ^^ Maybe I should think more on that
