Description I’m going through another Art Nouveau phase. You can have so much fun with the different line thicknesses. I like the whole concept of working with outline and then connecting swirly patterns.

This picture is a perfect example of how an artist can use a reference to enhance your level of creativity. I’d had a dream of some strange character and wanted to illustrate him. He had HUGE HAIR and long fingers that he uses to catch dreams and place his hair, which can spread out like a spiderweb. Freaky!!!

I used one of s wonderful works as a reference. She has some amazing lineart! Here is her character Midnight. [link]
Absolutely inspiring! The profile is so wonderful and clean. I wanted to see how crazy I could go with the hair. I’ve learned a lot from this picture.

Mediums used: Ink, ballpoint pen, white prismacolor pencil on cardboard. Tablet and ps used for different colors.

I think you could have gone further with thjis if you wanted to, but I do see the intricate work of it too, and I admire it. Gives me a mysterious feeling, like I want to know him.

Weird, but I dig it. And the story behind it.

I'm so glad I found your gallery! Your art is so detailed yet captures shapes and curves in an artistic way. The description is very neat for this character, and the hair is unruly and wild to match.

His hair was fun! I'd like to go further with his character design-I picture him with these long fingers-with long nails-and he uses them to form a spider-web-like net out of his hair.
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you appreciate my imagination!

Art Nouveau is beautiful, I'm a huge fan, but I've never tried it out myself. Perhaps someday. Lovely work here.

OMG please try it out-it's really easy once you get the hang of it-all you have to keep in mind is that you are putting emphasis on negative space. It's fun to see what kind of shapes you can come up with!

I can't believe how clean your lines are. I always have a hard time when doing hair, even more if they're like this, made of thick lines. That means I need to know where every lock of hair is coming from and where they're going to, lol. If you know what I mean. You did it gracefully. And with the hair shading as well!

I love solid lines, but I'm trying to learn how to get away from them. Art Nouveau is probably one of my favorite styles to draw in-with all of the connecting swirls and random lines-I love it!
It is sort of strange when you see hair done in thick lines-but I LOVE contrast!
Thank you so much!

But you do hair with thick lines and it doesn't seem strange, because you give it a lot of fluidibility (i have no idea if this word's correct) and a sense of movement and lightness It's a great style.

What awesome dreams you have

I really like the contrast of thick and thin lines, as well as the contrast of wild curves and straight lines in his hair. One reason I look forward to your pictures is that you draw the most fascinating hair

I know! OMG I had this really awesome dream like 2 nights ago-it has inspired me to write another story! About a forest burned down, and a spirit that guards the remains
Thank you so much for the comment-I appreciate it! I've been having fun with thick lines lately.

I'm starting to become better with coloring. Working with colors has always been a challenge for me, but I'm VERY fond of monochromatic pieces, especially gray tones!

Ooo, his hair looks so cool. I really like the design in it just below his chin; it reminds me of a harp (though that has nothing to do with the picture ). I like how the hair sort of curls around that one place on his head and gets darker there, like it's all twirling into itself. It looks so nice.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikya In reply to shifaikia [2008-07-27 17:33:26 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, I can see the harp! I love hearing what people see in negative and positive spaces. Art Nouveau is a great style for that
I was surprised at how detailed this picture was, everything has to connect in some way, or it looks unfinished.

Beautiful! I love the style, reminds me of a book of fairy tales I have that I used to read over and over again, not for the stories but for the illustrations. I love fairytales, it's not that, the pictures were just so gorgeous! Like yours.

Really? I want to see that book! Book covers can be so beautiful, or they can take away from the characters within. I'm the same way, used to read for the illustrations
Gotta love pictures!
