Blackwood, in a secluded area.

"Concentrate Alastair!" barked a gruff and commanding voice.
"I AM!" snarled another younger voice.

Dmitri glared at the younger buck that stood defiantly in front of him, they had been training hard since his magic first appeared, however Alastair had yet to successfully summon a spirit.
Snorting he stamped a hoof, and stood with his nose barely an inch from Alastair's.
"If you were actually trying, you would have succeeded by now." he growled. "Now do it again, focus! bring clarity into your mind! feel your magic!" he ordered.

Huffing in frustration Alastair did as he was told, he pushed all other thoughts out of his head, and pulled at the magic hiding within him.
His mind was clear, he could feel his magic, and yet nothing happened, again.
"It's not working..." he muttered. "I can feel it, it's there, but... it won't listen."
Grumbling Dmitri moved away he needed to consult Celeste, it didn't make sense that the boy could feel his magic and yet not be able to control it.

Alastair watched Dmitri leave sadness filling his heart, the old bull tried so hard with him, and yet he continued to fail him...
He sat down sharply, his ears flopped back against his neck, why couldn't he do it? it had been so easy the first time, though it had left him worn out.
"Dammit! why? why is this so hard?!" he yelled.
Anger filling his body he stood quickly, his eyes darting around for something, anything that he could try again with.
Spotting what was left of a bird he trotted towards it quickly, it looked fresher then the mouse he'd been practicing with, maybe it would work better?

Focusing on the birds small body he gave his magic a nudge, asking it to summon the bird's spirit here, if he could do this Dmitri would be happy. Happy that his only purebred son had learned to use his magic, yes this could work, it had to work, he wouldn't let him down again.
Squeezing his eyes shut he asked over and over for the spirit to appear, he was about to give up when the fluttering of wings tickled his ears, opening his eyes he stared at a pale blob that hovered over the birds body. slowly it took shape, until a small bird stared back at him, he leapt into the air with joy.
He'd done it, Dmitri would be pleased!
The bird started flying circles around his head, Alastair could only grin stupidly at it, far too happy with himself to even notice what was around him.
"Well done." Dmitri's voice broke through the happy cloud surrounding him.
Alastair jumped and spun around to face him, Dmitri was smiling at him, something he hadn't seen since he started magic lessons.
"I did it!" he exclaimed, running towards the bull just a little too quickly, he tripped and stumbled into him.
Dmitri only laughed and pulled him into a hug.
