Description ALNEAN PUREBRED BULBASAUR FAMILY
.

Scientific Classification:

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Subphylum: Vertebrata

Class: Reptilia

Order: Plantiformes

Family: Plantidae

Genus: Bulbium

Species: B. meraclogenus
Subspecies: B. meraclogenus originus

.
The existence of this subspecies of Bulbasaur dates back to the early Post Apocalypse Era, when these initially amphibian Pokémon started to become more land-based, making these purebred subspecies one of the originals.

While Bulbasaur in other parts of the world later developed a secondary Poison-type both as a result of cross-breeding and as a counter to mass hunt, the Alnean Purebred Bulbasaur had remained unadulterated because they dwell in depths of Alnean rainforests which are still untouched by human influence.

Apart from the differences in appearance, these purebred subspecies are significantly stronger than its average common counterparts. An average Purebred Venusaur surpasses the common Venusaur in the Special Defence stat and are slightly faster, thanks to the relatively lesser physical bulk. The plant on their backs, being completely free of poisonous enzymes, still retain its incredible healing abilities, thus giving this subspecies a much larger longevity.

This Purebred subspecies tend to be more aggressive, and with the access to several Water-type moves (inherited from their amphibian ancestry), are a formidable battlers even in wild.

He's based on frogs, as stated by Sugimori, but I personally prefer him as a reptile. Makes the Kanto starters all-reptiles and also explains Bulb's affinity to a terrestrial habitat rather than an aquatic one. And then again, he's got the "Saur" right there in the name.

Agreed and admitted. The developers have said that Bulbs is inspired off of a frog, so it has to be an amphibian rather than a reptile. But that's just my headcanon that I prefer Bulbs as a reptile since it establishes one collective trait between the Kanto starters.
