Once I met a dachshund named Walter. It worked pretty well, actually.

How can a dog do that...

I agree with the sentiment. Pet naming is fun, why give them a people name?
Our dog is named April. It was a concession - we got her in April - because there were 7 people who wouldn't agree on a name. When I was told, I asked "that name for a dog?" I call her puppy or bubby or apie ...
Our rabbit's name is Bobby. That was my mum. I call him Fluffball (our old rabbit was unnamed (for complicated reasons), and I called him Mr. Fluffybunnykins)

When seven people can't decide, that means it's time for gladiatorial combat.

I agree with that logic. Pets should be named something interesting. Take my brother's old pet Guinea Pig for example. Nobody could deny that 'The Fluffy People' is an awesome name for a pet.

I had a dog named George, he was named because of that episode of Bugs Bunny in which a hair beast thing picked up and violently squeezed Bugs whilst saying "I'll hug 'im and squeeze 'im an' call 'im George".
I think that would comply with your rules, no?

My rule of thumb for naming pets: You name your pet the name you would like your children to have, but your spouse/partner/donor won't let you name them.

In my pet-naming rulebook, pets aren’t allowed to have people names unless they’re named after someone famous or after a character in a book.
I AGREE! When I first wanted my puppy (and thought it would be a boy) I wanted to name it Sir William of Normandy because I thought it would be hilariously absurd. But I always pick from fictional characters/famous (dead) people. Her name is Harley Quinn now, so yeah.
I had a laugh at this. Sometimes when you overhear people talking about their pets (and I myself am guilty) it sounds as if they're actually talking about other people. x]

My dog did the same thing after eating a bag of balloons.
