Tropius is amazing. I remember when I first encountered it in my Sapphire version and I was all like "OMG!! I must have!!" and didn't continue on until I caught one xD
Ruby and Sapphire had some of the best new entries in the series, and made a great addition to the First Generation critters - really almost felt like they were there from the start. Diamond and Pearl... Wellll.... Some were nice some were not. Black and White, I checked the newcomers and almost fell out of my chair. So for me Generations one two and three were the best in my opinion.
And I am still waiting for a Ghost/Dragon hybrid pokemon! If they do it right it would be awesomeness! I liked the Ice/Dragon type from B/W actually, but most of the others were "AWGAWD MY EYES!!!"

Don't get me wrong some were cool, but others.... Well... I thought that one that looks like a gear was awful, but I guess some I might open up to later. Chimchar from D/P I hated to no end at first, but eventually grew to like the guy. Maybe it has something to do with that art of him holding his fist by his side so it looks like he is... Nevermind. I was always used to the Fire starters being nothing less than awesome (Charmander-> Charizard, Cyndiquil->Typhlosion, Torchic->Blaziken), but I wasn't really impressed with DP and BW.
Some critters must look cool in the new 'dex, like Rayquaza and Seadra.
When did you get into Pokemon? I was prolly around 4 ~ 7 when Pokemon was first announced in the US, so it was extremely tough for me to accept the 4th and 5th generation pokemon - even now I still am disgusted with a few of the DP guys (A flying HONEYCOMB!?!?), but others I still like.
When did pokemon get announced in US? I forget. I'm 20 now and my Bday is Dec 8, but I dunno what age I was when it came to us. I know my dad was alive when I first got Red version (CHARIZARD!!) so it was before I was 8 years old - as he died shortly before my eighth birthday - but I do not know the exact date.

I think I was around 15 when Pokémon arrived to the Czech Republic. When the second generation appeared, I chose my Pokémon nickname that I use within Pokémon community up till nowadays - Suicune Wolf, because Suicune was my favorite. I like much better Dunsparce these days, though :-D
Kling, Klang and Klinklang (the gear Pokémon) were my favorites from the fifth generation from the very first time they were announced. They are awesome. Original and cute. I dislike boring and popular critters like Charizards and Mightyenas... it's the blood-sucking lampray Pokémon that I love the most!!! :-D In my opinion, 5th generation is quite cool, especially compared to the first generation with all those Mr. Mimes, Jynxes and Voltorbs...

wow Charizard boring? how so? Really most folks who started with Red/Blue/Yellow/Green (Green was Japan only I believe I think it replaced Blue) found Charizard to be one of their favorites. And as a starter that evolves into a flying type, and in Ruby/Sapphire being able to match legendaries in power, he's far from boring (Blast Burn ftfw. Highest attack power in the game). In the mystery dungeon game series he's also amongst the best, especially in dungeons that zap you to level 1 upon entering. Nevertheless, it's all up to personal preference, but I'm shocked beyond words and mortal comprehension on how you'd think Charizard boring.
Original might be right, but that's also the prime reason why I detest Black/White - the designs deviate from the originals too much and frankly resemble Digimon more than Pokemon. And nothing is more abstract and horrid than a large portion of the Digimon designs. It's just not possible for me to respect BW in any manner when they've warped the idea that the creator had so far that they're almost unrecognizable. The dragon pokemon in the episode that was released recently? I saw that and if someone hadn't told me otherwise I would never guessed it was a Pokemon and not something out of Digimon.
I stopped playing after D/P, and have no intention of ever supporting BW now that they've damaged the game so badly.

Sure, Charizard is strong, and I also use it very often in my party, because it's very useful against Metagross. I said boring simply because it's EVERYWHERE - Charizard is too overappreciated that it's not nice. Poor Gligar gets no attention though it's just as cool Pokémon as any other.
I don't think that BW generation resembles digimon. I don't watch the TV show so I don't really know which dragon Pokémon are you talking about, and dragon types were never my favorites so I don't really like the BW dragons either. But Emolga, the electric flying squirrel that substitutes Pikachu/Pichu/Plusle+Minun/Pachirisu in BW is something that you could definitely identify as a Pokémon I guess...
Also, I don't think that they "damaged the game badly". I like the new designs, I disliked the game BW. It's because it's ALL THE SAME as the old RBY versions, the graphics is awfully pixelated, it lacks story etc... and unfortunately, many people around me dislikes the BW generation so I don't even have many competitors for trainer battles anymore. These were the best of fun.

Ruby Sapphire and Emerald were best challenge-wise, and held some of the best new entries into the game. The battle frontier was amazing, and the one where you are given several pokemon at random? I got a Lapras in one and we were doing a 2v2 match and all pokemon on my side were KO'ed and all of theirs were as well - so it was a Lapras vs a Gengar. Man the battle lasted until I was reduced to using Struggle and finally wiped xD
I don't watch the TV show either (Stopped after the second season. Getting EXTREMELY repetitive and Ash is literally just going in circles and getting nowhere. The movies are far better IMO) but over at the [link] you can see a few screenshots of him underneath the section Coming to USA. IMO that dragon looks nothing like pokemon - hardly any detail, etc. He has a blue body, tan underbelly, and his head is entirely maroon red. When you compare him to Aggron, Salamence, Flygon, Charizard, Dialga, and other dragons from the series he is UGLY. Yes I know neither Charizard nor Aggron are dragons, but I commonly place Aggron as one (and attributing to the examples, is quite detailed in a good way), and the former came from a time when it was not possible to give pokemon Abilities to make up for having to forfeit a type to be able to retain it's immunity to Ground/weakness to Lightning.
Diamond/Pearl actually had a fairly interesting story - compared to the rest of the series - and I was quite shocked when Giratina ate the antagonist right before your eyes Surprisingly dark portion of the plot for a pokemon game really.
Damaging the game might be an exaggeration, but comparing it to Emerald (By far the best release IN MY HUMBLE OPINION) the game and it's releases just aren't up to standards. The First Bird pokemon, the one resembling an Archaeopteryx, now that was a good choice in design and such. Him and Aerodactyl make a good couple and both very good prehistoric critters.
...
Did you know dactyl means 'fingers'? Dactylonomy is a real word too. The practice of counting with ones fingers
Pixelated graphics huh... Not sure what to say about that, but since I'm playing Red Rescue Team on my laptop, when it's at full screen it's V-E-E-R-R-R-Y pixelated xD

I actually wonder what do you mean when you say that something doesn't look like a Pokémon but rather Digimon (or something else). I myself would not be able to define an archetyp for a Pokémon, especially detail-wise - some Pokémon are highly detailed (e.g. Rayquaza, Groudon, Giratina...), some have the lowest of a detail (Jigglypuff, Cleffa, Snorlax, Mantyke etc.).
I usually like Pokémon when they are unique, that's why I love Dunsparce, or when they are based on my favorite animals (Eelektross and it's evolutions are based on a lancelet, lamprey and eel, all my favorites).
The dragon you are talking about is Druddigon - yes, it's nothing special, but all generations have their ups and downs I think that I liked RSE generation best as well though, it's because at those times, I could compeitively battle most of my friends. About DP... Giratina ate the antagonist? O.o I don't remember anything like this... wasn't that in the Platinum version? I have never played that one. I might have just forgotten as well, though.
---
About dactyls... well I am a zoologist (a scientist), so yeah, I know terms like these And about the pixels... in my opinion, Pokémon Mystery Dungeons, all versions, have AMAZING graphics! Yes, it's pixelated, but well worked with! There are all 4 generations of Pokémon in the later PMD games, all fully animated in many position in the smallest size, all very precise and recognizable! Compared to these games, the main Pokémon games really SUCK at graphics. The animations usually contain only 1-2 frames that are "prolonged" or twisted, and in the BW games, the pixelation was even promoted by combining it with a pseudo-3D effect. Now all we see are HUGE pixels on a Pokémon that is "closer" to us, and we see every third pixel on a Pokémon that's far away from us. YUCK.

For me at least, the first 'preview' thumbnail for the Unova submission category shows some purple thing with orange bug eyes and a huge gun for a head. Even if this was to be a lab created creature, couldn't it have been more in the spirit of Mewtwo-esque lab created? Porygon seems better in terms of artificial.
Pokemnon/Digimon resemblances... I don't know. It's there in my subconscious saying: "It don't look guud, It look weird as hell?" and my mind translates that as "That can't be right... That is a pokemon? No..." and then my mouth/keyboard translates that as "That looks more like Digimon to me". Yeah my subconscious is a messed up place xD
"About DP... Giratina ate the antagonist? O.o I don't remember anything like this... wasn't that in the Platinum version?"
Can be debated on how you want to perceive the turn of events that took place. And given the continuous differences between the games (Mainly the pokedex), anime, manga, and various spin offs, it's largely up to assumption. In the game Giratina appears as a shadowy figure and pulls him into itself and they both dissapear. [link] <---
In the manga thingie it happens a little differently. After Palkia and Dialga get their asses kicked, some "mysterious black tentacles" grab the two dragons and Cyrus (Andatgonist) and drag them into Giratina's world and are presumably never seen again.
Anime still pretty much the same thing with only a slight variation.
In Platinum Cryus actually stays behind on his own decision (Of course this is likely in part due to Giratina being defeated/captured)
I wouldn't personally define "ate" as the sort you'd expect a typical dragon, say Charizard or such, to do so to a creature like Pikachu, but upon playing through the first time that was the first thought that crossed my mind!
As I am beyond obsessed with dragons, and to a lesser extent the rest of the reptile kingdom, dragon pokecritters are almost always at the top of my list in priority and I quickly try to find ways to like them. It's tough knowing that Salamence and Rayquaza can both be laid to rest with a single well placed Ice attack (4x Weakness...) but that's never stopped me from using them. That's also never stopped me from recruiting Nidorina/Nidorino in Red Rescue Team - I love those critters, but gawsh hell they have horrible stats even as King/Queen! My Nidorina had less than 80 HP at level 40!! She was getting at best 1 ~ 2 HP per level as Nidorina.
I agreee with the unique part on the other hand. I've been drawn to a number of unique and or neglected pokemon while playing the game, and have at times challenged myself to not use the "power hitters" and abused move sets that folks take down the elite four with in under 2 minutes. (Look ma I used a single pokemon and never used an item and wow it's under lvl 60 too!). Slight exageration perhaps, but I do so love using certain pokemon despite being weaker at times.
Tropius. I love that creature. Shuckle is sort of cute too - especially in Mystery Dungeon.
Have you played Explorers of Sky? I was reading it over and looking at the guide for the locations of the legendaries and was dismayed to find that (IMO, since I haven't reclaimed my former status in the game as I picked up a copy of Sky whilst I was using Time before. Dialga ftw) some of the legendaries seemed to have lost their status as being nigh-impossible to reach. Lugia... You had to recruit Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Latias and Latios, then trudge through Ninety-Nine floors of pure hell just to get one shot at him. He would be at the 99th floor all alone in a special boss encounter. In Sky/Time/Dark, he wanders about randomly in a 19 floor dungeon upon completing another dungeon which is under 30 floors upon completing a new condition. Not as awe-inspiring as Red/Blue Rescue team. Not difficult at all? Doubt it, but from a glance it doesn't seem that grand. And it sucks that they removed the Friend Areas. I loved the looks of them, and the music... Ahh...
(Copy-pasted from a post I made to someone else earlier as I did not wanna retype it)
One thing that's bugged me to an extent, and this is going off-topic, is that in the 1st-Gen PokeDex Aerodactyl is stated to eat meat, and in fact when Ash encounters one for the first time it tries to eat him. Very much later in the anime, I believe it was Gary who next encounters one and he manages to fend it and Armaldo off with berries, common garden variety berries that Ash's Pikachu noms on every day. No special chemicals, magic, or nothing - just berries and fruit. What. Happened. To the Carnivore thing we had going on!?

Is it just me or are our replies getting longer and longer? I'll try to keep it shorter now
You are right, that purple legendary Pokémon is weird, but it's not even officialy announced yet, so it really doesn't exist yet... :-D
Sure, the dragon's popularity together with their weakness made me to have at least two Pokémon with Ice Beams always in my party. No Rayquaza stands a chance then I love Rayquaza because of its look, but it's really useless in battles. I personally prefer non-legendary battles, though, so I rarely even fight against it.
I played Explorers of the Sky, but I stopped after-story. In Blue Rescue Team, I chased the legendaries and I really liked it (and I even caught one of those hard 99 floor legendaries, which one was it? Jirachi?), but since the gameplay was a bit changed in the newer games, I didn't even try catching the legendaries there, especially after playing Explorers of Time. In the Sky version, though, I really loved (!) the little episodes that explained a lot about the various characters from the guild. Especially Grovyle and Dusclops story!
As for the Pokémon diet... well, Berries are food that's eaten and loved by all Pokémon, as it does change their stats and stuff. But that doesn't mean they can't eat meat too...

Nah our post chain and replies are really tiny compared to the one nueme-chan had a while back here: [link]
I copy pasted my longest reply into Open Office and it goes down nearly two complete pages with 1,144 words. The entire conversation spans nine pages in Office with 5,591 words.
Anyway. IMO the Dragon type shouldn't have been given weakness to Ice. Especially now that the idea of Warm Blooded dragons is becoming increasingly common, coupled with the new theory that most raptors may have been warm blooded which I figure must be adding popularity to the Warm Blooded Dragons theme
Of course, that would mean their ONLY weakness would be against themselves
Kingdra doesn't have that weakness to Ice, but he's the only one aside from Dialga.
Rayquaza is fast, so he might be able to overpower some Ice type users before they get that chance, and it rally does suck that he has that weakness. They shoulda given him something to counter that, like tweaking his Air Lock ability. I never really did see the point in that, outside of simply being there for the story purposes. In raw power in Hoen/Johto/etc (Not in the games, but in the world itself) Rayquaza likely would brush off most Ice attacks except from the most powerful attackers - like other Legendaries or such. Given Kyogre can access Ice attacks he'd have to have built up some kind of immunity or resistance to Ice otherwise Kyogre would always come out the victor in their three-way battle for dominance. You can clearly see that he should have that resistance because the world of Pokemon isn't one giant ocean
I wouldn't say useless though. Unless you're facing off a largely Ice user. I agree with preferring not to use legendaries in battles. Takes a lot of satisfaction out of winning. Doesn't mean I don't use them, just not as often.
Sky/Time has some neat additions (Like you can actually feed berries/gummies to your members from the menu. Often they'd just dodge or catch them when I kick it at them even with the IQ skill.) and the new abilities some old critters have in 4th Generation come up I liked. It seemed natural that Lanturn would have Swallow/Spitup as it says similar in it's R/S/E Pokedex, and Shuckle gets Gastro Acid. THere were others but those two come to mind quick. Outside of that I prefer Red/Blue. I'm playing Red on my laptop taking screenshots here and there. I just got through with Buried Relic a few nights ago, and made a nearly fatal mistake: After defeating Regice I tried to use my Escape Orb. It said I couldn't, so I shrugged and moved into the next floor to use it - Only to find that it counted as using it before and removed it from my inventory. Oh sh*t... So my Marowak (Cubone Starter!) and Quilava (Partner!) and the Ditto recruit trudged onward. Around floor 68 ~ 74 Quilava got defeated and I picked up a Ryhorn recruit. Ditto was still alive surprisingly. WHat got VERY TOUGH is when the Haunters started showing up. On floor 87 was a nightmare. I started in a Monster House, and after fighting through it there was a narrow strip with water on one side and walls on the other which turned right into a fairly long single tile wide hallway. TOO MANY DAMN HAUNTERS attacked me from the walls, only wanting to go after my ditto who was, again, still alive but barely. I had long since ran out of food items and my last reviver seed was lost during this battle in the hallway. I exited out the hallway and saw a Haunter sleeping one tile beneath the exit. Crap. While I was fighting him with Thief that I picked up a few floors back a Machoke came up, and then a Haunter started to attack my Ditto from the walls. Great.
In the end, I had to battle through all 99 floors, and managed to exit out with Ditto, Ryhorn, and Marrowak alive.
The Silver Tench was my favorite 99-floor, with Buried Relic tied for second with Joyous Tower. It only seems natural that Lugia would dwell at the bottom of a 99 floor, and they did a good job at putting Deep Sea dwellers in the latter floors (Lanturn, Cradily, and a few others at the very bottom) instead of near the higher floors. I kinda found it odd how Lileep and Anorith were in the 3-Floor dungeon you start with in Sky. Lileep I can understand, and perhaps even Anorith, but after just getting out of Red/Blue it seemed rather odd xD
Yup. Berries are one thing that everyone loves. There was a cute - and well written - story involving Latias and Rayquaza and she had brought him berries. Of course his stubborn and somewhat arrogant attitude chased her off near the end (Latias: You wouldn't even be talking to me if I wasn't a legendary and my brother was as well!) They might not eat meats in the show, but there is nothing stopping them from doing so in user created stories! Charizard and Salamence need their meats. There was an art of Rayquaza snarfing down a few Ampharos that was fairly well shaded. And a lot of pokemon need more than just four teeth!

It seems like I am not able to catch up with your long posts, huh... and I am going to be off the net for a while, so I hope that you don't mind a little lag.
Anyways, the adventures with Red/Blue PMD that you describe seem really hilarious, they bring back memories, I loved the first PMD games gameplay-wise much better than the later (Time/Darkness) ones. The point is so simple, just going through a dungeon, but the possibilities are limitless, especially when counting challenges like those in some of the 99-F dungeons (e.g., when you can't bring items with you or when you are brought down to level 1 temporarily). In the later games, I really loved the story (and seeing how exciting and interesting both PMD stories were I was always quite disappointed that the main Pokémon games have no story at all...).
