The Optimus problem is (kind of) fixed in Beta 2. They've stopped installing the drivers for discrete GPUs, so it boots fine into the desktop (but only with Intel GPU), so you can install the proprietary driver and Bumblebee, so the Nvidia GPU works fine with Intel's. And Bumblebee is pretty mature right now, there are bugs, but with primusrun it's very stable and FAST. You can now play games on higher video settings Ofc native Optimus support in Nvidia driver is nice too, but Bumblebee offers a bit more stable workaround (but slower).
I'm only wondering whenever to stay on Ubuntu, that's slowly butching itself with Mir, Upstart, Unity designed for touch devices and so on, or find a stable alternative (Debian? Arch?), Windows 7 is still the most compatible OS with my notebook, and Linux isn't as usable as Windows there
