Wow Alex!!
This is one of the most wonderful shot I know from this point. It's defenitively a great location. Skye is a paradise for the landscape photographer : sea, mountains, and a magical light, ever changing.
Your B&W processing is just perfect!

This is stunning Alex. I have never seen this place before. Obviously well worth a visit.
I love the powerful conversion but can't help feeling that the sky looks overdone. I think if it was just a touch brighter and less contrasty it would be a little more realistic.
Even so, much better than the colour version.

no, that just introduces noise. If I do use it I use it very subtly and work from there. In this case I desaturated and used several masked curves adjustment layers.

Right, thanks for the info.
I'm happy to know that it wasn't just me, thinking it was impossible to do good B/W with that tool. Imo its a little rubbish..

JakeSpain In reply to Alex37 [2008-11-26 19:17:56 +0000 UTC]
Is that the new feature in the layers dialogue? I'm so glad you don't like it either. I used to try it for every B+W when I first got CS3 but never liked what it does or how it works.

The light made the scene slightly insipid to be honest. I also wanted to inject some drama, which I dont like to do in colour because people see colour images and want them to be real, but not so with BW.Thanks

Yeah granted, BW adds atmosphere and mystique.
