Coire na Creiche, Black Cuillins, Isle of Skye, Scotland

This rock really stood out in the distance and I was releived to see that =PastyGuy hadnt seen it. To get this composition I put my tripod to its full use. I still couldn't get as high and far back as I wanted but I am happy with the final composition, even though it is a compromise.

Composition wise I dont think this is up to your usual standard Alex. The boulder's a little too dominant in my view. Also the sky is a little too flat to warrant so much of it in shot.

IMO!!

I only let you have it because you failed so badly when we were at Glen Etive. I thought it would feel like you redeemed yourself here

You mentioned "compromise". That's what I initially thought about it. Huge rocks like that often need a huger one in front of them to stand on and get a nice angle. Overall a great shot, though.

Very nice capture Alex. Very different from most images I have seen of Skye.

This is what the Cuillins is all about. Bleak, atmospheric and hostile.

Does that make us great minds thinking alike or fools seldom differing?

well, we both read those amazing books, which automatically shows that we have great minds.

Now I'm curious.
What books?

Oh my gosh. I completely misread your first comment. *head desk* Ahhhh, silly child.
I thought you wrote something describing a scene in one of the Twilight books. I somehow got "Cullens" out of "Cuillins." And one of the scenes of the book is where the family fights, in a "bleak, atmospheric and hostile" area.
Once again, *head desk* Going onto dA and leaving comments right after school is not a good idea.

I'll post a journal in not too long, but we did all the usual haunts, it was great, but the weather could have been better. We didnt have a proper sunset in the 6 days whilst we were there

Compromise or not, that is indeed a beautiful photograph. I like the contrast between the ominous sky and the bright green of the moss. Nicely captured.
