It's not always discrimination- some countries have very different laws about what can/can't be shown on tv.
And sometimes it's copyright issues- some countries didn't get the Disney movie Alice in Wonderland because the book was still copyrighted there.
It still sucks when it happens, though.

If the show is really popular (like Legend of Korra) that said episode/clip is bound to end up getting copied by someone from the "non-neanderthal" area and then published elsewhere like youtube etc. I've been able to watch many "restricted" clips that way despite being from Europe.

Omfg I seriously hate that stupid #$%7* thing! They put a regional code on the 3ds's so noe i can't play japanese 3ds games. This really sucks cause i speak and read the language fluently and go there every summer.

Stupid movie/TV studios. You can pretty much blame them and how they'll only allow certain websites to stream to certain places. When I lived in Japan it was hella difficult to stream anything from the USA (I'm a US citizen and I was living there temporarily). Supposedly there are some kind of URL/IP changer thingies out there to trick websites into thinking your from whatever country you need. But I could never get them to work. =_=;;;
