Description Amber was out on an evening walk when there came a heavy snowfall. As darkness fell quickly, she turned back and mended her pace to reach the stable before it becomes too dark and freezing. As she hastened home, she caught a glimpse of something moving, hidden in a snowdrift bellow a wide branched, solitary spruce tree. First, she startled, but soon she assessed the movement was way too clumsy to give away the presence of anything dangerous. She paused and observed the spot cautiously. She heard some noises coming out of there which sounded strangely familiar, although she couldn't really tell what that reminded her of. She thought for a while and then decided to approach the tree. As she came closer, she realised what those sounds were - and she quickened her steps.

When she reached the tree, she was horrified that she was right, because what she found was two foals, no more than a few hours old. She looked around and neighed for a while, but she could neither see, smell, nor hear any herd or even a single horse nearby. What was more, an odd feeling was telling her that no matter how long and far she would search, she wouldn't find anyone.

The temperatures were dropping quickly and it became obvious the foals would freeze in the snow if this situation was to prolong any longer. At once, she made her decision. She took off her pelt cloak, draped it over the foals, and nudged them gently to stand up and follow her closely.

That midwinter night, Amber returned home as a mother of two.
