"As I wait..Here in this corner.
The smell of blood traveling down the corridor,
Telling us all of our fate.
The calling cries of pain,
And the askings of help.
Who can hear us?
Who cares?
We all have a story,
Most of us had loving homes;
Until we were sold.
We hate the word,
The word that sends us away.
When I came here,
I dreamt of what was;
And I still dream now,
As I wait..."
If it wasn't for horses, humans wouldn't be where they are now.

people talk about animals biting the hand that feeds them when its always been the other way around. in fact, we've even stomped and spit on the hands - actually the hooves, paws, fins, etc. - that feed us.

one of which i haven't been able 2 ride until now and I've had him since i was 3 he still freaks at the sight of men.

I had three wonderful and very precious horses of mine sold about two months by my father to a woman who had been begging us to sell them to her for awhile. My father didn't want the horses anymore, no matter how much I beged and plead, he sold them to her anyway.
I was told about a week or two later that they had been sold for $150 dollars each at a fair and shipped out of the country. I was told that they had been sold off to be slaughter to processed into dog food.
It really hurts me since those horses were so gentle, and I'd been around one of them since I was a kid, and none of them had ever caused me harm. But yet, they were sold off like property for a fate they didn't desurve...
This art of yours will always remind me ofwhat had happened to my horses...But regardless, it's a wonderful piece of work. For once we all get to see the horse's side of the story- how they feel about what is and is going to them. I envy your abilities...haha...

Slaughtering any animal is cruel and unjust. This artwork really moved me. You've done a beautiful yet saddening job of capturing the mood and I salute you.
My cousin has this horse named Lucy. She was beautiful, but when my cousin realised she could no longer care for her, she sold her. Lucy's new owners raced her illegally, and when the were found out, they destroyed the evidence by sending her away to be slaughtered. It's awful, I can't believe such beautiful animals could be harmed in such a way.

This is great, it reminds me of how I got my horse. He was at a slaughter house with strangles and he was only 3 so i rescued him. He is a grey too.

Oh dear, this is so heavy on the heart. The way you have positioned the horse and their expression... my goodness, I have never seen a drawing or painting so brilliantly done with expression so humanly, but still realistic. A bravo to you, and I have signed the letter in your description... I never knew. Thank you for that, I can't believe such a thing is done. Horses are beautiful creatures, wonders on earth and here they are - slaughtered by the thousands...

This is very nicely done... of course the subject is not pleasant, but if no one ever brought this to light it would continue unchallenged.
It's quite unjust that we humans feel we're the only one's who are special enough to not be things to be used. When it comes down to making money, horses are just another way for the greedy it seems... whether it be in competition or on a meathook.
I hope eventually we'll grow up and realize that any creature capable of emotion deserves to be treated as such. Until then... bad karma for us.

the same things happen to millions of cows, chickens, and pigs every year. Do they deserve life and happiness less just because they aren't as pretty or " noble" as horses? just because we don't have the habit of riding on their backs? Don't eat horses; don't eat anybody!

This is a beautiful picture. I particularly love the face of the horse.
Hopefully slaughter can be put to an end soon. There are bills in the works to ban it entirely in the US, and to prevent people from shipping horses outside of the US to slaughter.

i have a horse, and i am extremly against horse slaughter, and it's great to know that people also are against horse slaughter and that they truely believe it's a high priority. i loved this poem, it is very beautiful

i love this this drawing, as much as i love the message. horse slaughter is a sad reality and something that many aren't aware of. thankfully, it's getting better - but not nearly as good as it should be.

Lovely job on the colouring. Really sets the mood. I agree, horse slaughter should be brought to an end. At least some people try to go and save the horses before they are killed...gives some of those horses a second chance..
