true! I love it that in The Hobbit, the dragonslayer is not the protagonist, and is not even a young, handsome heroic type; he's a pessimistic, slightly paranoid middle-aged grouch who just knew what needed to be done and did it.

Kinda a loopy style, fitting with Tolkien's drawings, I think. The color is well blended, and though Bard's stance looks a little static, everything else looks good.

jeremy keeps telling me the loopy smoke looks incongruous. maybe it does.

Jeremy is the most wrong ever mostly because the smoke is very stylized, so it fits with the feel of the rest of the piece, and also because I don't know how else you would depict smoke in this style.

The flames do look a little... fat, I guess. Though I'm impressed at how well you managed to keep the color in the lines. Though really, with smoke, you almost WANT it to diffuse more.
