Description So sorry for the huge size!!! I feel for you if you have a slow connection.

Tutorial - Photoshop coloring with Multiply Layers.

So, due to the amount of people that have asked me how I color on photoshop recently I decided to make my first tutorial (I don't know why people are so interested in how I do it XD I find it very uninteresting). I don't go into the actual coloring very much but I show you basically what I do on photoshop and also how I prep my images for the coloring.

It's very simple, but this is how I work.

Hope it helps! I will happily answer any questions you have.

Gah. I meant 'a knack for tutorials as well'. *sighs* I should really watch my grammar more carefully.

Wonderfully done!

Actually that's the exact same method I use. And don't feel bad, I only use one layer as well. (Although recently I've started to use one more 'in between' layer to do the shading with. I don't know if that helps.)

Mouse colouring is difficult as well. I'm so impressed! With your skills, if you ever are able to purchase a tablet your colouring will actually increase to mindblowing proportions. (I can only assume, as already you're so far out of my league, that I can only imagine what your colouring would be like if you actually had a tablet.)
Right after I bought my first tablet my computer colouring increased dramatically. I never would have expected it.

You do have a knack for tutorials though. I can never seem to explain how I do anything without confusing the person even more. I'm going to fave this. ^^

Thank you I never know if I'm leaving out information. Because it makes sense in my head, but I don't know if someone else is thinking "wait.. how did she get from there to there?"

I am going to ask for a tablet for my upcomming birthday because there's so many things that I can't draw with a mouse. Things like backgrounds, grass, hair, fur, and other details like that are harder to achieve if you're using a mouse. I'm hoping my art will improve with a tablet too I just hope it doesn't take me too long to get used to it.

If you're already a good mouse artist, the transition is pretty quick. You'll notice a huge improvement. I can't wait to see what you can do with a tablet!

Multiply... I must remember that. AND figure out how to do it on Photoshop Elements... -.-

But that makes me think about different ways to get my colour down... it's cool.

Although, for cleaning up my lineart, I just adjust the Levels, darken the black, whiten the white, and clear out the grey. Cause I'm lazy that way...

Levels never works for my lineart, I don't know why. My white never comes out pure white without destroying the lines. Maybe I suck at adjusting levels or something XD But I like the magic wand. One click and it's all gone

It's definately a useful thing... That wand is very handy.

Yeah, I know how it feels to draw with a mouse... HARD. Veeeery god tutorial, I did actually not know about the 'Multiply'-thing.

Yep, I always had to scan the lineart, do a NEW lineart separately, make a white background and THEN colour it on a layer between lineart and bg... But not anymore! Thanks!

You've been missing out then! I discovered that and my life hasn't been the same since I love it, it's really the only way I color digitally.

One layer.. whoa that blows my mind. I use so many layers I have to group them in sets. I like to fool around to much with colors and tools so I need the layers to protect myself really.

My line art is completely drawn in photoshop with the mouse so I don't usually have to mess with that too much but its great to know how to fix that hazing from scanning hand drawn stuff into photoshop. I've only done it a few times and the line art drove me nuts. Great tutorial.

Yea I know, people must think I'm crazy XD I use a lot of layers when I'm working on a completely photoshop picture, because then I can tweak individual layers. But I like that I don't have to worry about what layer I'm on. And I've learned to depend on the magic wand tool for all my tweaking individual areas. I just select something and tweak the color or texture on that. I dunno, I might be crazy Or just very lazy.

Yea there's onthers like this already but for some reason people want to know how I draw. Pfft, silly, right? XD I don't think my coloring is very itneresting at all, but people were curious so I just made one for them.
