Finally, I've finished the main seven characters of my MLP Next Gen universe! I'm so happy with these, you have no idea!
I'll post each one everyday over the next week and go by order they were born in. I might add in more if I think of anything else. Also there are some deets here that aren't fully explained, but I hope to expand on later. Without further a do, here's the second born of the Next Gen and oldest of the Mane Seven!
Bramble
Personality: Jokey, talkative, loyal, caring, brash.
Likes: Wrestling with Daisy, lazing about, exploring, finding wild berries, baking and making jams.
Dislikes: Heights, bigotry, ponies deliberately trying to hurt his friends and family, Bright Eyes’ magical mishaps.
Story;
Bramble is the only child of Big Macintosh and Sugar Belle. He is also the first unicorn to be born into the Apple Family. A natural slacker, some of Bramble’s favourite things to do in the world include lazing about in the sun or wrestling and playing tricks with his best friend, Upsy Daisy (Fluttershy and Discord’s daughter). This frustrated his hard working father. Because of this and Big Mac’s lack of communication, the pair had a tense relationship during his childhood. Sugar Belle (with whom Bramble is closer to) thought the reason he didn’t help out on the farm was perhaps because he had no interest in farming so she encouraged him to try other things, mainly baking and jam making. When he was seven, Bramble went on a camping trip with Big Mac, Daisy and Discord. At one point, he wandered off into the woods, picking mushrooms, berries and any wild fruit or edible plant he could get his mitts on. It was a while before he returned to camp. Big Mac was beside himself with worry and was about to scold his son before he realised that Bramble (with a massive grin, twigs in his hair and saddle bags bursting with wild fruit) had a shiny new cutie mark of three wild berries and leaves on his flank.
A year later, while at his aunt’s Camp Cutie Mark, Daisy vanished for a week. There was a world-wide search for her and Bramble grew increasingly anxious and worried for his friend. It wasn’t until later that everyone discovered she had been kidnapped by an escaped Tirek and Cozy Glow, who (unbeknownst to everyone at the time) were torturing her for her chaos magic. Bramble’s other friend, Bright Eyes (Twilight and Pinkie’s daughter) overheard where Twilight had discovered where they may be and hatched a plan to rescue Daisy without their parents noticing. Bramble agreed to go at once, along with their other friends, Pale Umber, Orin, Tornado Rush and Ace Dandy. While they were successful in finding Daisy, things went wrong fast, which led to Tirek finally pushing Daisy to breaking point, unleashing nightmarish chaos powers. She ended up destroying Tirek and Cozy but Twilight protected the bunch with her magic. Bramble was helpless to do anything, terrified Daisy would die but luckily Discord appeared and calmed her down, saving everyone.
After Discord teleported everyone to their respective homes, AppleJack informed a frantic Big Mac and Sugar Belle what happened. Bramble and his cousins were about to be scolded when Bramble broke down into tears, the stress and shock from the event finally crashing down on him. While he was grounded like the rest of the foals, Bramble didn't protest. He silently went on with his life, school, farm work and family but was depressed from the whole ordeal and also not having to see Daisy since she was recovering. His parents tried to help, Big Mac even beginning to talk with him more often to try and strengthen their relationship but nothing changed his mood. Bramble’s only comfort was Ace Dandy (Rarity and Fancy Pants’ son) who was allowed to visit him during this difficult time. Once Daisy was mentally well enough to interact with other ponies, Bramble’s mood improved and soon things went almost back to normal, except now Bramble and the others had to support Daisy in her new mental health and anxiety issues. Bramble’s relationship with Big Mac as father and son also improved and Big Mac worked on being better at communication.
As he grew older, Bramble began to notice stallions over mares, in particular, Ace Dandy. He was very conflicted about his newfound sexuality and feelings. On one hand, he knew LGBT couples like Rainbow with Spitfire and Twilight with Pinkie, so he knew it was possible for him to be happy. On the other hand, he never really discussed this topic with his parents before and didn't know if they would be ok with it, not to mention his fear of revealing his romantic feelings to his lifelong friend might ruin their friendship. However, when Ace moved to Canterlot for a while, Bramble found that he missed him and gathered up all the courage to send him a letter and some Zap Apple Jam. Unbeknownst to him, Ace was miserable in Canterlot and it was Bramble's package that made him realise his own feelings for him. Ace returned home to a warm welcome and, once along with Bramble, confessed his love for him and the two began to date. At first it was secret but they opened up about it when Daisy accidentally discovered their relationship. All friends and family have been nothing but supportive.
In the current timeline, Bramble lives with Ace on his Great-Grandfather’s renovated old farmhouse. He works closely with the local woodland trust and runs courses on foraging, which he does for free since Ace earns enough through his football career to support the both of them.
Bits and Pieces
Bramble is two days older than Upsy Daisy. They were born in the same hospital and have always shared a birthday party.
In an attempt to get him into different things, Sugar Belle and Granny Smith got him to bake and make jams with them on a daily basis and, despite not being his true calling, he became good at it. He can be seen in the kitchen whipping up new jams and baked goods with the stuff he found from foraging. After Granny passed away, he becomes the resident Zap Apple Jam maker every season.
Because of his close friendship with Daisy, many believed that they would eventually fall in love and get married. However, Bramble is gay and madly in love with Ace Dandy while Daisy is demisexual (thought both agreed that even if they were straight, they still wouldn’t date the other and joke about how ugly they both are).
He is fluent in understanding Hippogriffian Sign Language (which Daisy uses to communicate since she is mute) and often acts as a translator for Daisy.
Bramble cannot stand even the slightest bigotry and will fight anyone who would dare look at his friends and family funny. Once as a foal, alongside Pale Umber, Tornado Rush and Upsy Daisy, Bramble defended his cousin Orin from a group of bullies.
When Bramble still lived in Sweet Apple Aches, he sometimes clashed with his hard working cousin, Pale Umber, who also didn't like his laziness.
Bramble has a pet female black and white collie called Skye, one of Winona’s descendants.
He is deathly afraid of heights. Once, Twilight treated all her friends and their kids to a free airship cruise and Bramble was airsick the entire time.
While he is generally chill with all his friends’ flaws, he gets easily frustrated with Bright Eyes’ extreme magic catastrophes, such as her exploding his Zap Apple Cake, the failed rescue attempt and when she sent all of them back in time.
Because of the above reasons, Bramble refuses to bake with Bright Eyes again, although he admits that she makes good cakes.
Bramble and Ace do get a little PDA when they’re out together, enough for Big Mac (who's still madly in love with Sugar Belle and ain't afraid to show it) to tell them to turn it down a notch.
