Never heard of XSI. Which do you find the easiest to use?

Is it overall better or just has some functions that max lacks in? =]

Its better in every single aspect. Max is a old dieing program that keeps getting prolonged with plugins and is so unstable its crazy.

Maya started around the same time period, as another program, but even Maya is starting to show its age, and its getting pretty unstable in the newest builds because Autodesk is effing it up pretty bad right now.

I used some more complex shaders for this, actually did take alot of tweaking with lighting and everything to get it to look right.

i have to be honost w/ you...the stars are a bit...meh....
look, i dont want to be a jerk or anything, but let me share some advice with you..
these are some decent ways to getting a great looking starfield.
1. new layer, set back color to solid black.
2. go to- noise/add noise set to gaussian and monochromatic 20-30%
3. go to- brightness/contrast control and set brightness down, increase contrast.
Otherwise, though, the planet looks amazing.

I make stars that way when I do it in photoshop. But I was doing a full internal 3d scene here with no post production.

Bring down the atmospheric glow a bit, other wise, great texturing. Keep it up

very cool. i likle it. when i first saw it i thought it was a 2d project.
how did you get the clouds right on there?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Alpha-Leader In reply to xxjudasxx [2006-08-16 17:42:25 +0000 UTC]
It is several Spheres that are a little bigger then each other. the smallest sphere is the ground. The middle shpere is the cloud map with an opacity mask, and the biggest sphere is the atmosphere which is made by using a falloff map combined with gradient ramps.

ah. very cool. i'll have to true the cloud map. i've been using flame effects with a really whispy look to them, but i haven't been able to get them to look quite right.
