Description Ynde is Danish or Norwegian for "grace" or "charm" - I thought it might be a good description for the flowers of this orchid!

It's Eulophia guineensis, a terrestrial species which is widely distributed in Africa and the Arabian peninsula - from the Cape Verde Islands in the west to Saudi Arabia and Oman in the east, and southwards to Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It's not often seen in culture although it's fairly easy - at least for a terrestrial orchid!

Full view is obviously advantageous!

Lovely shot, but I think I'll leave the orchid growing to you. The plants will thank me!

Why is it a bit blurry? But the details are already captured well. A graceful orchid, indeed.
Anyway, I have 2 pots of eulophia petersii, one with 3 bulbs and the other one with 4 bulbs. Last time I called home, they're doing alright and hopefully they'll bloom soon
Any tips of caring for eulophia? They're very hard to get here, and I don't know when will I get another if I fail with those that I have right now.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Althytrion In reply to K-lenx [2008-06-09 08:53:06 +0000 UTC]

Well, I have always the choice either to accept the noise caused by the chip of my cam, or to reduce it and add some blur, therefore. Perhaps I'll do this processing again, with different settings

Eulophia species are somewhat different in culture, as some species are fairly easy, while others can hardly be cultivated, for instance the saprophytic species. Eulophia petersii grows in dry rather areas and is hence found more often in collections of succulent plants than in orchid collections. It should be treated in a similar way like a typical succulent plant, especially concerning the soil (well-drained of course), watering and dormancy period.

K-lenx In reply to Althytrion [2008-06-09 09:55:30 +0000 UTC]

Then I think I've got it correct in general, I'll check the growth in 2 months when I come back home, and snap some photos from all around my backyard
I put them together with my cactus collection and several pots of pachypodium lamerei & p. geayi, in case you know what they are.

Of course I know Pachypodiums. Well, it sounds reasonable what you're doing, Franz - so good luck!

Vielen Dank. Naja, wenn ΓΌberhaupt, sieht man eine Eulophia vorzugsweise in Botanischen GΓ€rten - und da meistens nicht bei den Orchideen, sondern eher in den Sukkulentensammlungen.
