Description Following my last big submission (Golden symphony) i've bucked up my ideas a bit. Whilst a lot of people marvelled, many who are aware of my abilties pretty much knew i could do better... and yeah i agree with them - whilst the piece was a success in deviantart terms, by me, it wasn't anywhere near my usual standards. Bad terrain, light conflictions, i could have done better. So here's my effort.

First, a better terrain, better texturising and surfacing, i've got Alyn-esque clouds and lighting as usual to maintain a degree of drama, the only thing i wish would look better was the water, but i couldn't get it looking great with that amount of sunlight, so i guess it's kinda fitting in that sense. Second problem was my lighting, i figured that if i centralised the upper light source (the nebula) - then i wouldn't have a problem, as everything that reflects the light would point inwards. My initial intention was to have 1 giant nebula in the middle, but after several hours later it turned into 2 nebulas entwining themselves round each other, almost dancing. Hence the title of the piece. Then it was a case of adding to this. I think i may have gone a bit overboard with the stars, but they're not nearly as bad as some previous works in fairness. The transition in this piece was majorly difficult since the clouds were present, but i just added some gradual stars and a glow from the clouds upwards... check full view else it won't be apparant.

So yeah, that's the lil image runthrough.

Stats? I was warned in a previous image that i should be careful what i say here, however i've never been known to be careful with the truth, so here are the stats.

Terragen preprocessing - 3hours
Render time - 2hours
Post render time = 1hour
Render size originally = 8000*6000
Space Time = 11hours (since the last piece i've learnt some nice new tricks that helped reduce the time, especially for the nebula.
Total time = 17hours (over 3 days)
Tools Used = Terragen, Wacom tablet, Photoshop6
Photoshop layers = 186 (some layers merged)
.PSD size = 203mb

So yeahyeah blahblah get on with it alyn...

Comments and especially fav's appreciated! and don't forget to FULL VIEW since you will NOT be able to appreciate the image without it (trust me on this one).

This is my last submission this year, going out with a bang i guess

I love the colors you've used in this one. I think as things move away further back they are suppose to get smaller to give it more depth, lol at least thats what my art teach harps on. I do love the space part but it seems seperate perhaps if you had started down closer to the mountains with it and the moved up still its beautiful and I think you're very talented

The depth in the nebula is just awesome. I agree the water leaves a bit to be desired, but over all it's a fantastic piece. Nice job!

So much detail its amazing. I especially love how the night sky goes into the valley with a river like that, it really complements everything. The only thing I dislike is the ring on the planet, just doesn't look right, but thats just my opinion, its beautiful though

The space scene looks absolutely brilliant... So real

My only hesitation is the river, it's shoreline is too pixelated and the ending of it is weird... But the rest of the terragen is great

ow looLooking at this piece again I noticed another little inconcistency You have two diferent lens flares in this picture: one of them has vertical and horizontal flashlines whereas the other is only horizontal and is much thinner and more spread out. That would mean you used two different lenses to take the picture ... doesn't make much sense eh? hehe. I personnally prefer the really thin and spread out lens flare, it somehow looks more like what I'd expect to see in an artist's impression of space

The nebula looks stunning and the transistion works pretty well (The nice suttle starfield/nebula). The tgen part looks great to, I love the whole 'valley' style.

Ah, my friend, you've surpassed yourself on this one Allow me to sat I think this is your best piece to day ... particularly the terragen. The textures are very near excellent and the terrain is very realistic. I for one particularly like the contrast between the extreme brightness in the centre of the piece and the soothing darkness on the right ... The rock face blends in perfectly with the space part.

The only thing that slightly looks out of place, in my opinion, is the water which looks a little too pixelated and too white to look realistic. Perhaps a little post render smudging could have helped, or perhaps reducing the reflectivity curve ... or even removing the water altogether, but that would have ruined the harmony of the piece.

The space part is, quite honestly, brillliantly thought out and excecuted. The starfields and nebulae are very realistic looking! The only thing slightly out of place is the ring around the planet in the top left corner, it looks too glowy to look right.

Other than that, this is an excellent piece. Congratulations, I was sure this piece was going to be great

ah yours was the comment i was waiting for, and thanks for it - yeah, seems like the water was the main problem in this one as opposed to the planets as originally thought (i did remove some of the other planets surrounding though... since they were cluttering the nebula). Not sure if it's my best, i think i still like my "goodbye" piece better even if the nebula in this is a large advance. But anyway, thanks again i think if i submit the landscape on it's own i'l deepen the valley a little to allow the water source to begin outside the picture's view.

Going on holiday now, so should came back all refreshed with new ideas, heh. Happy new year
