Description Fan art of the TV Series Gargoyles.

I remember Goliath and Elisa Maza sharing a love that could not be entertained. And so I wondered what it would be like if they were able to indulge in their love. The story went as followed:

Elisa managed to become a gargoyle herself and on that first night she experienced a most astounding world in the wind beneath Goliath's colossal wings. However, her new found gargoyle form did not last, as she was not born a gargoyle. The morning came and she turned to stone, never to return to her animated self.....

Goliath, sad to lose his love, remained stone forever. Frozen in their last moment of joy until time wears them away....

Mediums used: Graphite, colour and background in Photoshop.

That is just sad.

But if they both go to sleep not knowing they wouldn't wake up, for them it's great. For us, it's just sadness.Β

The best type romance are the ones where both characters meet their end in each other's arms. Not everyone can live that fairytale happy ending. This is beautiful.

Thank you so much.... Good to know someone agrees on that aspect... I must admit, not all stories should end as such... Otherwise the monotony generates either depression or boredom...

I agree it would get boring. I've always been attracted to the depressing sides of romance because love can last for a long time even through death. While the couple may be "dead" or stuck through time as stone at least they still have each other and can crumble together.

Ha ha. Yes but sad is often more beautiful, more dramatic, and more memorable... Such as Romeo and Juliet...

Besides I didn't want to derail from the story, entirely.

Thank you for your input!

Shame, not all stories have happy endings.... but that's what makes it memorable.... So that one still clings onto that sliver of hope...

My favorite thing is the background! I don't know. It's just very cool, the lighting, the architecture. Is this the realm of like where the gargoyles go when there in their stone form? Like, sort of like dreaming? I'm curious.

That is a marvellous idea. But no, that is not what I intended. I made them stone in the evening because they are frozen like that forever, reflecting my artist's comment. You never see these Gargoyles as stone in the evening, thus drawing attention and deepening the concept.

I did, however, intend to make the background dreamlike.

I'm curious as to how you decided on the dreamlike background. I think it works really well!

Oh, okay, I see what you mean. That's very cool. I like the way you did everything!

How I decided? hmmmm.....-scratches chin-

Well, to be honest I'd say the factor is time. Time in itself is dreamlike, they are essentially timeless, and like time space is endless. My dreams always have a glow or blur when I recall them. So the background glows in an ethereal manner; the moon as well because I, myself, have a magnetic attraction to the moon.

I hope this helps or makes sense? However, do not give me too much credit for the background. I based it on existing architecture because I can't paint or draw them worth shit{pardon that}(well I have not really tried, nor had the patience to just yet).

MistressKurumi In reply to Alyrah-Sabre [2012-07-02 22:03:05 +0000 UTC]

That's a really amazing way to think about it! It's good that you made the background so surreal. I'd love to see you just do some original backgrounds!

Well, all architecture is based on other architecture and people use references all the time!

I never saw that show but from what I heard about it(nostalgia critic, yeah thatΒ΄s the place to hear it from), it was pretty special.

A very nice thought behind the pic and I think you caught it very well. The setting with towers and the moon and light is very good. And the texture of stone is on the spot.

I wasnΒ΄t sure about sheΒ΄s falling apart(why does she?)it some how disturbs the quitet of the composition. But it also contributs to the sadness so I can see itΒ΄s purpose.

Well, I myself battled to decide about adding the crumble of rocks or not. She falls apart because their love is now broken in stone.

But I'm going to try and blend this a little better. Was just experimenting with background styles as I never really paint backgrounds. Plus I noticed the image looks way different when I viewed it at work. I need a new screen.... T_T
