The art kind of ran away with me in the first panel here. x_x I had originally left myself some space for a text box, but then the composition changed and then I had no room and had to get really creative to cover up as little of the art as possible. I'm finding myself wanting to put together a collection of my favorite panels sans text after this is done...I felt a little pang of sympathy for Riku while writing the text in the second panel.
It made me wonder, though - Riku actually does some horrible things in the first game, while all Kairi does is utter one dubious line and be a princess. Yet we get Kairi-bashing, and the whole fandom puts Riku on a pedestal? What up with that? (Not that I am at all encouraging Riku-bashing or saying he doesn't deserve sympathy! It's just kind of stupid that Kairi gets flogged for basically nothing... But I've ranted about this before. XD)Yes, that misshapen white thing at the bottom is Riku. ._.

Also - I absolutely agree with your second paragraph in your artist's comments. Riku's an asshole for 99% of the first game. I mean. Really. I love him, but he's a dick.

i think the reason kairi gets bashed so much, is because the bulk of the fans are sora or riku lovers, unless their org loves, while no one cares about kairi.
there are a lot of riku bashers, but they're mostly people who just played the game to play it and don't care about the story or that characters.
love it so far btw. i was so happy to find an art based mostly on kairi. they're so hard to find.

I'm leaving the names off because this is a fairy tale, and you don't always get names for the characters when you read a fairy tale. I'm sorry that you were confused, but this comic is really just telling what happened in Kingdom Hearts from a different angle, so if you played the game you should know pretty well what's going on. I think the distinction of "the girl", "the bright boy", and "the dark boy" is pretty simple, and if you read the whole comic, the distinction between Sora and Riku was even explained back on page 4.
So, no, sorry. I'm going to stick with not using the names. I don't think it's too hard to figure out, if you're paying attention.

And you're making a very good point. Character bashing is pretty lame no matter what fandom you're in (and no, character-bashing folk, I don't care how much the character gets in the way of your OTP T_T). You make such an eloquent argument against it, too - it's a shame that the worst offenders are the ones who will miss the point entirely.

Ahh, at the very least you'll give someone something to think about. I know I was a silly little muppet when I first got active in fandoms, and it's thanks to these "Reason" and "Logic" things you're employing so handily that I grew out of it at all. So there's hope for some, at least!

I was pretty silly when I first started entering fandom, too. XD I remember once hating a character in an anime just because my favorite character had a grudge against him... Thank heavens I grew out of that.

Once again...I just...love how you handle everything. The art, the narrative style...it all fits together very nicely. And as for Kairi...the poor girl! She doesn't deserve any of it. It's the fans, not the fandom... but you've gotta blame Squeenix, too. I mean, we get all excited that she actually fights in the second game, but they've gotta give her the floweriest Keyblade imaginable...
I know another yaoi fan that likes Kairi, too. (I'm not exactly a yaoi fan myself, but she managed to convince me that RikuSora was partly canon XD) OT3 FTW~

SoraRikuKairi (or whatever order you wanna put it in) is/was my first OT3...I used to be repelled by the entire concept of an OT3, but then I got to the Kingdom Hearts fandom and kind of went "...what? You mean I have to CHOOSE between them?" This way, everyone's happy, right? XD

Unfortunately, I got into FFVII the bad way (through Last Order and AC, instead of playing the actual game first) so I never caught on to the OT3...I was an Aerith/Zack fan from the very beginning. XD
But yeah...something about KH....it screams OT3...

I have nothing against any of the characters. I don't know why people hate Kairi ether. At first I found her a little annoying but she grew on me. Specially in KH2. She's a good character. And I too have sympothy for Riku for he tried to save Kairi, but ended up doing it in the wrong way. I love how you drew Riku in the last pannel. The dark wavey things entering him. I love your "how she lost her fear" searies. Keep it up.

See, that's the number one reason I have developed an extreme hatred for yaoi. Just becuase you think they're gay doesn't mean you get to bash the poor female character.
Damn, KH needs more women... seriously. Org XIII should have been at least 50% female. I mean, KHII, I was totally expecting there to be more women and... no. Just girly-men.

I'm with Flidget and Josse, here. Don't blame the genre itself for the f'n crazies it attracts. XD Heck, I used to ship Sora/Riku pretty hard before I played KH2 and fell in love with SoRiKai. We sane yaoi fans do exist!

I agree with Flidget... hate the crazy fangirls, not yaoi (and shonen ai, and yuri, and shojo ai...) itself. There are sane fans who loves the female characters, me being one of them.
More female characters? Why? And why should the OXIII have been 50% female? I'm curios, because the way you worded it seemed like it's for political correctness...

Heh, no, not for political correctness. I just feel that the Kingdom Hearts series has a distinct lack of female characters (at least in terms of those which only appear in KH). Take a look: we have four (4) female characters vs 18 male characters! That's six (6) guys for every girl. I happen to like strong female characters (one reason I happen to like Kairi ^_^ ) and KH just... doesn't have very many. And it IS a little odd to have a 6:1 male-female ratio.
Not to say I don't like bishonen. hell, look at my gallery >.<
(and truth told, I'm not a fan of shonen-ai and yaoi except in some very rare cases, but I do dislike irritating fangirls a great deal more. I'm cool if you like that sort of thing, it's fine, but don't go trying to stab me if I say I like, say, Riku x Kairi.)

(Hey, I like any pairing as long as it's wellwritten, IC and plausible. In fact, KH is the most pairing-friendly series I've ever seen ^^ I'm more likely to go *stabbity* at people going "nooooo, that pairing can't ever happen because [pick a reason, any reason, I've heard them all!]".)
