Description For my biology lab report, I had to go to the beach and catch this pretty little thing. I was supposed to catch another 49 of them but this was all I could manage after two hours searching. Well, not really... I found another one. But it was dead. This isn't the right time of the year to find them. We call them beach ladybugs here. I have yet to find the scientific name.
I usually hate invertebrates, but I've got to admit these are actually quite cute.
For a sense of scale, it's walking on sand. Very thin sand. So they really are tiny.

Is it a native ladybug species? First I thought it was a Harmonia axyridis (which would be bad news)

I don't think they're actually ladybugs, strictly speaking. Just ladybug-like insects which inhabit the beaches.

I would be very surprised if it wasn't a ladybug! O_O It's true that I'm not familiar with the Brazilian insects, but the resemblence is just too good!
Also, that W-shaped pattern ot it's thorax really looks like that of H. axyridis: [link]

If you manage to determine it's species, can you please write it so I can see? I've became interested in it.

After reading about the species, I have to agree with you that this is indeed it.
Thank you for the help identifying it!

You're welcome! But it's not very good news then. This species harms the ecosystem over here, and fighting against it is not an option any longer.

I read about that. Very unfortunate indeed.

It does look quite like the species you mentioned! I know nothing of insects so I really couldn't tell, I was just told that they weren't actually ladybugs but my sources could be wrong.
I'll let you know if I find out!

Thank you! I wasn't very satisfied with the focus but it's the best I could do then with f/0.
