you know this reminds me of Lady Macbeth...

I think you could push your values, especially in the hair (more darks, maybe a dramatic highlight?) and though it looks like the hair was very laborious sometimes less is more, so instead of that incredibly detail approach I see (individual strands kinda thing) go for broader patches of color, especially at the nape of the neck where most of the hair will be obscured in shadow (or I would assume).

nice job! looks like it took a lot of work!

hehe.. yes 'out, damn'd spot!' ... still one of my favourite quotes.

thank you for the helpful reply. I've been practicing with more dramatic contrast in my pencil drawings lately, with happy results. It's definitely something I'll keep in mind when I try digital painting again.

the hair wasn't as labour intensive as it looks. the individual strands are layered on top of broad strokes of base colour... I just got carried away because at the time, the wacom tablet was a novelty to me.

aaaah okay. I was going to say, it LOOKS like it took forever! I think this piece looks rad.

I have always had a penchant for women with cutlery. This works for me.

What an elegant piece. This is haunting. And I personally like the pitch blackness of the doorway and how she seems to emerge from shadow like a demoness. Some people can be so nitpicky.

I'm entranced by both her elegance and the intensity of her stare.

Emerging from the darkness into a [candlelit?] room. Very cool.

come to think of it, the wooden beams are a little off-kilter compared to the placement of the door, but it works.

still VERY beautiful work.

Wow not only she gorgeous and I don't care that she's too tall, I especially love the strokes in this!

Ooh! I like how she's emerged from the darkness! Both versions are cool though. Killer by day, hunting assassin by night. I'll bet the darkness made lighting issues a helluva lot easier to manage, huh?

Phew. A quick glance back gave me the shivers. She has this look of, "You just saw something you should not have seen. There can be no whitnesses."

And I've been looking for an excuse to use this. I have no good excuse.

Personally, I like the color of the dress. But the doorway has me a little confused. The shadow of the girl is on the wall, but there's no light in the doorway, or going into the doorway.....

well, the light is coming from in front of her, and there is no light source coming through the door whatsoever. I suppose in reality, you'd see something other than pitch darkness through the doorway since some of the light in the room that she's in would light up whatever is behind her. On that note, all I can say is that I'm lazy and blackness is easier to paint than dimly lit rooms.
thanks for you comment!
