Description Another Angelina pic, not one of my favourites. I think there's something off in her face somewhere, but I couldn't define it enough to fix it. This was done a while back, and I think I have a better grasp of shading now. A4, graphite, and I used a camera rather than scanning it. I think it works better.

In graphite how do you get your blacks so deep? every time I try it just comes out all wrong

I just go heavy with a 9B pencil. Part of what I like about charcoal is the fact that it gives a deep dark tone and doesn't have the same shine that graphite has.

Howdy, I've finished a new piece & want you opinion it's called Wolf 1 (I know lame name but until I think or something better it will have to do). I used a charcoal pencil to help with the deeper tones in the mouth.

When I saw the thumbnail, it was obvious that it's an old work. The other thumbnails really look like pictures, not that one.
The shading isn't as good. I don't know the ref pic, but her right eye his weird and her right cheek seems too angular.

Very true, but I don't mind showing my early stuff, even the mistakes, since it shows that I've improved.
