Description A3 charcoal sketch of the beautiful Manca Pavli, a dancer and teacher of Tribal style belly-dance and oriental dance. I've been looking for some nice dancers to draw and paint, and the Tribal Fusion style really caught my eye. I love the jewelery and the costumes...they're so intricate, and this provided a great challenge for me to stretch my talents. All the lace was a pain, but worth the effort. I'd like to try drawing some of the other dancers soon.

Thanks. You're right, they do have a similar look. I've seen some really nice pics of Zoe, and I'd definitely love to try drawing her one day.

Thanks very much. Glad you like my work. I love drawing faces...the rules are simple - after all, we all know what a face looks like, so we all recognize when the proportions are off or the angles are wrong, so it's a subject that works well with traditional realism.

This is just amazing.
How can you make details like that with charcoal?
I stated using charcoal, but stopped because i simply couldn't make the details without smudging it all out.
What kind of charcoal-pencils do you use ?

Thanks so much.
I basically use whatever cheap, crappy charcoal pencils I can find. When I started out I found it all messy and frustrating, but it gets a lot easier. Charcoal pencils can be sharpened with a knife to the same fine point as graphite pencils, and if I'm careful nothing gets smudged too bad. I love charcoal because it gives the deep, rich black tones that I could never get with graphite.
Your own work is really impressive. I especially love the Hunter. He's one of my fave's too.

I probably spent about three weeks drawing it...but I'm very lazy, so most of that time was spent just drinking coffee and chatting with people.
