Description Okay. Yes. I am among a rather large group of Harry Potter fans who take pity on Draco Malfoy because of JK Rowling's professed interest in hinting here and there at his being psychologically (and some speculate occasionally physically) abused and turned into a puppet carbon copy clone by his evil elitist icy bastard of a father, Lucius Malfoy. This of course doesn't excuse the towheaded ferret's behavior, BUT it certainly makes him more sympathetic and interesting. SO! I drew yet another Harry Potter sketch this weekend, of Draco posing for a portrait with Lucius, who has recently cruelly upbraided or smacked him about for some minor dissent or offense. I can just HEAR Jason Isaacs (a LOVELY Lucius, IMO) right after taking his son off to another room in the professional photographing studio to hiss at and belittle and thunk with his cane, dragging him back and going, "Now, now, Draco, smile for the cameraman, won't you? A sourface does a proper wizard no good when he becomes a real man." GRAH LOL! EVIL MAN! :veangeful: :d'oh: EVIL! LOL

My intent was that body language and facial expression in this relatively simple graphite sketch speak entirely for the content of the piece, and I WANT IT TO BE NUANCED--SUBTLE--LIKE IF YOU DON'T LOOK CLOSELY IT JUST LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER STIFF FAMILY PORTRAIT. Because that is the way child abuse situations REALLY are--NOT glaringly obvious. You'd just think Draco was a little bitch all by himself and spoiled rotten, and that I believe is only halfway true: As Minuchin said, our internal psycholgical states are guided by the external as well (the family and environment). Which is pretty scary and sad.

Lucius looms arrogantly over his son in heavy black robes, a leather gloved hand in a peculiar "I will choke you if you do not behave agreeably, I OWN you" kind of gesture at the boy's shoulder and throat. Draco sits with slightly taut shoulders but much like a perfect little porcelain doll, with a semi-sad, semi-rehearsed look of blase passivity and cold haughtiness on his vacant, big-eyed face. I hope you notice also the way that Lucius's cane is "accidentally" getting tangled in his son's hair, as if he is testing the extent of Draco's lenience and compliance by deliberately but quietly taunting him.

Both of these characters are, of course, owned by JK Rowling.

Nice Drawing, it may be a bit messy but i belive that it helps creating the right feeling.
And I fully agree with your discriptions that follows. Even if he is a mean bully i canΒ΄t help fealing sorry for the por guy.. o.o I did hope that Draco would find the coage to do right in DH. It felt a bit like the wrighter just forgot about his character in the last book.

I donΒ΄t belive that Lucius allways have been the typical could hearted abusive father. IΒ΄m currently readinga fanfic that explain how i view the Malfoy family realy well: [link]

Check it out if you are intrested.

Thanks! This drawing is at least four years old, I think maybe five, so I hope sincerely that I have improved since then!

i completely agree. i am the only person i know (besides you, now) that believes Draco was abused as a child and young adult by his father's cane/wand. i think this picture beautifully represents that abuse. very well done!

i love the way that if you look closely you can almost see a hint of fear in Draco's eyes...was that intented or am i just being over fanciful? (i am one of the fans who crave for subtle hints there is a taunting if not slightly abusive father/son relationship between these two)

I think Draco is in a sort of "Guilded Cage"
His dad treats him more like a prized pet then a son

No problem. It's really creepy, actually..I have a character I created(Kaedi MacNair) that I use on HPID and in fanfics, and she also has a...ah...similar situation at home, I guess you could call it. In any case, she could very easily have turned out like Draco. Anywho, you're really good at doing these sketches, they're always extremely thought-provoking.

Thanks very much, that's fascinating. Yes, it's actually a more common home situation for kids than one thinks, and I really feel it warrants a closer look, even in the fictional world.

Just curious, that was what was really important to me, and no you don't need to be a HP fan to get it....

Well I'm a sucker for amazing shading. Shading is what I normally look at first, so sorry for bein' a clone of what others have said.

I didn't notice the tensions between them at first until I just looked at it again.

Antemortem Philosophy. I put together a book of my poems and that's the name I gave the book. There's only one person that I gave a copy of it for now, a woman that attends a church that my mom works at, the woman's name is Peg if I remember correctly.

ty. I particually don't like the first two (Jaded Earth and Eternal Seeds) mainly for my crummy structuring. But that has improved in the newer ones. thank God. lol

Yea I met him once when I went with my mom one time when she went to drop stuff off at the church. He seemed like a nice dude.

I couldn't drop by the church for service on a Sunday. I go to the Vineyard Community Church (ever hear of it?) on Sunday mornings, then am stuck usually helping my dad with junk around the house, or watching NASCAR Racing with him (oh joy what a blast that is lol). But I've dropped by Westwood many times with my mom when she goes to work. At times to help her when no one else is available, or just when I feel like gettin' out of the house.

Yeah I've heard of Vineyard, went a couple times with my friend Amy Winkler and her fiance Chris Hamlin, but it's not totally for me, even though I respect the more modern/non-traditional worship methods completely. You should post your new stuffs here
