I've had this idea in my head for quite a while now and I've finally had time to draw it. I feel like there's still more I can do with this but here it is so far.Enjoy!

I still prefer FMA 2003 way more, even if I DO ship these two.

That's one reason why it is a good ending because of how real it was. It wasn't generic, it had it's own mindset. However after all the hardships still like the alternative ending.
Don't get me wrong 2003 is my favorite and brotherhoodΒ can't touch it for me.

Yeah this is why, even though I liked fma03 and Shamballa, I much prefer Brotherhood, cuz we don't have to worry about "what if" with these two. It happens. It's canon. Meanwhile, 03 doesn't develop the EdWin dynamic past "heeheehee they must like each other," and Shamballa even SEPARATES Ed and Winry at the end! So yeah.
All this aside, beautiful image. I love . . . well, everything about it. It's just so sweet.

I totally agree! I had shipped Edward and Winry from the beginning and since the anime finished before the manga, I was left completely disappointed with how they ended their relationship. When I finally saw how it was supposed to end in the manga, I was even more devastated. LOL. So when Brotherhood came out and I got the ending I wanted it got me thinking about the FMA 2003 Ed and what his reaction would have been to seeing the conclusion his Brotherhood counterpart ended up with. Which is how this idea was born.

Yes. Perfect. To be fair, I suppose Shamballa's whole endgame was to bring the brothers back together since they got separated at the end of 03, and that's fine, but what about Ed's other significant relationships? Why can't he be with them as well? It just doesn't make sense.

Yeah! I mean, I get that the whole premise of the series is Ed and Al trying to get their bodies back and reuniting at the end of Shamballa (which they did). But to be completely split off from every single character in the actual series all of a sudden is just crazy. Now they're both stuck in our world without alchemy and without Winry, Roy, Riza, Armstrong, etc. who we had gotten to know and love throughout the series! You're right, it doesn't make sense! Like, I know the OVA insinuates that Ed does find Winry'sΒ doppelgΓ€nger because of his great grandchildren looking exactly like him, Al, and Winry but that's not good enough! LOL.Β
