This is one of my favourite drawings made for you until nowΒ !

And are you planning to draw another less known battles from the "Third Century Crysis" as the battle of Barbalissos 253 AD or Edessa 260 (Fixed) AD?Β

By that Edessa you probably mean battle from 260 AD in which Emperor Valerian was captured?I plan to do scene of his surrender to Persian King and also another scene where captured Roman soldiers are constructing bridge in Persia with Valerian still in nominal charge over them. With 3rd century in general I have many plans.Thats mainly becouse I like how Roman army looked like in that period.Rather than Barbalissos in near future I want to do for example battle of Harzhorn which is basically only known archeologically or battle of Abrittus in which two Roman Emperors died and and bout which more is known than about Barbalissos.More importantly site of the battle was likely discovered and painting so can use vast amount of archeologicaly recovered military equipment sirectly used in this battle. But several other 3rd century set scenes are in my head also other battles of Aurelian. Most recently I had to devote more time to late 2nd century and Marcommanic wars since I started to cooperate with archeologist in my contry exploring significant military presense of the Roman Empire on territory of what is now Czech Republic at the end of the 2nd century.

Yes it was that battle, a silly error for my part.

On other hand, it's great to know that you have plans to make more drawings about the Third Century. In fact, maybe you can also touch in your works some less known troublesome frontiers of the empire and its conflicts as the borders of the Roman Dacia? Which, until where I know since the reign of Marcus Aurelius it was under a great pression in all its frontiers by several barbarian peoples: Vandals, Free Dacians, etc. and however their garrison was able to mantain the province until their final leave.Β

And respect your work along an archeologist, it's part of future publication about that matter? And will you draw also the armies of the enemies of the Romans in that perilous front as the Marcomanni and the Quadis ?

Yes,not just Romans but also their enemies. Many publications are planned which should include my illustrations.I dont know if they will exist also in international translation(...meaning in English) but since those will be academic books its probable. As For the Dacians I did consider to depict Romans fighting them in 1st century BC as well as during Marcomannic wars and 3rd century because my impression is that general public often acts like if they think the only wars Romans ever waged with Dacians were those two campaigns of Trajan and that after this point they never again fought with them.

If this will be colored it will be rather as fully rendered painting. But I will yet post a second version of this sketch with equipment of the Romans altered a bit.
