Description "Stay close to the Vorlon and watch out for the shadows. They move .. when you are not looking at them"

Final version of my shadow alien model. babylon5.wikia.com/wiki/Shadow
Thanks to Wolvster and his reference pictures of the original model, I was able to correct some of the proportions.
A zip file with a c4d and an fbx version can be downloaded at the Foundation3D Res-section once the file is approved.

Don't thank Wolvster too much the head is not quite correct my friend.Β  The rest is brilliant as usual per your excellently high standard but the head...

Sigh,Β  no one ever gets the head right.Β

By the way, I used your picture as reference to make a texture for the eyes.

Ah but if that were true then you would have seen that the correct number of glowing eyes equals exactly 3 on top and 4 on the bottom as seen here.Β  oi61.tinypic.com/evdp9s.jpg and not 4 and 4.

This is my absolute favorite Alien ever made and just like the true Vorlon form I spent many hours making screen caps from the show for reference as well as getting references from across the net.Β  Even my illustration which I consider the best reference of the head out there to date doesn't do it the justice that it requires due to the unique 3D geometry involved.

What is wrong with it?^^
I just know that there should be a corner at the chin and it should have more of beakΒ  but the rest is pretty good I think. Most of that comes from the low polycount of the old model.

Hey brother,

If you really want to know what it should look like I will build you a resource file choosing the best of the 30 images I have acquired that I used to make my own drawing of it.Β  The geometry of that thing's head is like no other and very complicated hence the difficulty in anyone getting it remotely right.Β  But if your happy with what you have built so far I won't say another word against it, promise.Β

I think those ref pics of the original model will do.
www.foundation3d.com/forums/sh…

And about the glowing eyes. I did know that there are just 7 eyes glowing in that scene.
But I did try to remember how much eyes Ivanova did see when she was in the great machine. In the end I was too lazy to look it up.^^
Then I thought, why should it have so many eye-holes if just a few of them are glowing. So I decided that it doesn't really matter. I think I am getting less hardcore canon these days.

I might however have another go on the overall shape of the head. I got those nice references after I already finished the geometry. That is why I just altered a few proportions.

I hoped that no one would notice.

Ah I see you based your model on John Teska's mesh!Β  That explains it.Β  The JT mesh is 100% accurate but because the texture maps haven't been applied and the head not seen from more oblique angles it is easy to see where the variations from the original occurred.

On another note, thanks for the link!Β  I have been trying for years to discover who made the original 3D sculpt of the Shadow from the show!
And I take back what I said, Wolvster's mesh is accurate I just didn't realize some of the actual facial features were "bump-mapped" and didn't show on the mesh which totally explains some of the warped geometry on the original head.

As ever your work is phenomenal.Β  If it wasn't for the fact that I love this guy I wouldn't have noticed anything, heck I even have the action figure (Fairly accurate except for the long neck) oi58.tinypic.com/adg6bq.jpg . I wish I could get my hands on this one, the head is almost perfect even if cartoony! oi58.tinypic.com/2cmqij6.jpg

Ok, to get that in a line: ^^
JT made the original mesh for the show and those pictures from Wolvster are pictures from that original mesh.

And yes, I don't see another way to make the eyes than with a bump map. At least not without using zbrush.^^

It is ok to get critic! I am not getting it very often in the last time. I think that does make me lazy

*whisper* I have the Sheridan and Ivanova figures.... ^^

What's sad is that the Shadows were probably the most truthful of the two, between them and the Vorlons. At least the Shadows were open about their intentions. the Vorlons...not so much. They had waaaayyy too many skeletons in their closet, so to speak.

Fantastic I love the improvements you've made. It totally feels as if it came straight from the show. , A shame that the image wasn't at least 1680x1050 otherwise it would be my new desktop.Β
